The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Hi!

I don't have a recipe for that, but I found this:

" For Pine Nut Praline
¼ cup sugar
2 Tablespoons water
¼ cup pine nuts
In a medium heavy-bottomed sauté pan, combine the sugar and water. Place over medium heat and cook until the mixture is golden brown, about ten minutes. Swirl the pan to distribute the caramel. Stir in the nuts and pour onto a lightly oiled baking sheet. Let cool completely and then coarsely chop. Store in an airtight container until ready to use."

It is good. My grandmother used to make it, using her mother's recipe. Someone always got tipsie on it 'cause it's so good.

Dunno. I've only made wine and you get 1 gallon of wine for one gallon of grapes. 'Course I don't distill it any.

Well, that's pretty good return on wine! I bet a lot of corn goes into corn whiskey.

So what did you decide to do? chores or watch movie?

Is your cold feelin' better?

How does one distill corn?

We went out to the Christmas tree farm and hunted for the perfect tree. It's up now, all decked out. Now it feels like Christmas.

Cold seems better, but then I'm still on drugs. :)

I ended up watching The Movie and then took a nap. I really have to do some cleaning up in the kitchen, though.

Got hot apple cider on. :)

How does one distill corn?

I have no idea!

Glad you got your Merry Christmas all installed. All ready now, 'cept the waiting!

What's it like to be home again?

It's nice. Calm except for the hectic bits. Very comfortable so far. My parents buy good wine.

If you get bored.... invite them to play a game of quarters with the wine. Tell 'em you learned it in college.

They wouldn't believe me.

Our dog's getting kind of old and tired. He's nine. His face is turning white. The cats won't die, not the senile one, not the masochist, not the cat-as-fat-as-three-cats. My sister replaced her gerbil with a pair of rats. The bird is still here. I shoulda gotten them a hedgehog for Christmas.

He's sweet. No health problems yet except arthritis. Other than stupidity but he's always been stupid.
