The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Sounds like a wonderful way to do it. Being in AZ, having snow on Christmas was most definitely not an every-year occurence... I only remember that happening a couple times. But it was nice when it did happen!

And BTW, the actual title is just "Messiah" (no "The") </music geek nit-picking>

I found some sugar free 'starlight' mints, so I'm going to make some sugar free peppermint bark. I've got sugar free dark chocolate for the bottom layer, and sugar free vanilla for the top layer and I'll mix crushed peppermints into it. Gonna be good!

Soo...what time should I show up?

I love that stuff...

Heh...last night we went to the Irish session at the pub, and when we left Stephen and I were both all keyed up even though it was ten o'clock. He said "let's go SOMEWHERE!" I reminded him that he's in rural Vermont, where nothing is open after maybe seven at the latest, except for McDonalds (open until eleven) and Wal-Mart over in NH (open until midnight, just 'til Christmas). He said "OK, let's go visit the Qs!" Dunno where that came from! Guess he just assumed you'd be up. ;-)

My dad likes to make his mother's recipe of Christmas sugar cookies every year, complete with frosting and sprinkles. If our oven worked a bit better, and we had more room in our kitchen, I would like to make them too.

Suzi, that sounds delicious! What is the sweetener? Maltilol? That's good stuff!

Rosie, how was the session? Oh my goodness, I wish I could go!

I'm fixin' cheap cinnamon rolls for the boys...you know, the kind that come in a tube? They love 'em and the house will smell good.

It was a pretty quiet session. Just me and Stephen and Bill and Jim. One guy that plays with us came for the first time - he plays with another band and their practice night is on Thursdays, so usually he's unable to come. However, he hurt his hand and couldn't really play along, so there wasn't much to it! All family members! We coulda held it at my house. But I like that pub...it's a nice little place.

Christmas potluck at work today...

We had our Secret Santa "reveal" this morning. Lots of snacks.

Elastic waistbands are our holiday friends.

I'll drink (and eat) to that!

There are cookies here today. I can make New Year's resolutions, I guess. Heh...

Comb-binding.... I had a love-hate relationship with the comb-binding machine where I used to work.

Wife actually bought one of those last year for school stuff. She was putting together some of the students' works and it wsa cheaper just to buy it and bind them herself.

Well, yes, but the subject matter is The Messiah...

Suzi has one of those, too. I woulda taken her up on the offer to help me make a book outta my document, but since I took so long to finish, and since that place is so cheap...and it woulda taken a LOT of ink and neither of us have a laser printer, I figured I'd just use the service I mentioned. I think it's cheaper in my situation.

But comb-binding works the BEST for cookbooks, IMO! Means the book lies nice and flat.

True, but as it was written in quotes, she was referring to the musical work, not the subject thereof.

In other words, there's a reason why you're unable to chat in the Hole that much! You're BUSY!! :-)

Cat just got the chickens all "uh-lahmed" (alarmed as Joshua puts it). It just saunters through our back yard on the way to it's home...but it doesn't seem to want to bother the chickens...but it's a whole lot of excitement for the girls!
