Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
A new road or a secret gate...
New verse:
|
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Because it's a challenge. Because unlike 85% of the non-major courses one has to take, it's concerned with right or wrong answers. And because it's where math first starts getting... I don't know... weird. Learning math is good training for a conservative mind!

Maybe I'm stupid, but doesn't not being on the football team this year sort of put a hole in his chances of playing in college? Yes and no. It certainly doesn't help. And it will make it more difficult for him to even play varsity next year.
He's a lineman and he's not likely to get looked at and recruited for a scholarship. But, if he can get in at Tech, he's got a good chance of walking on and being picked up.

Good lord, I think I know his twin brother.
Someone from our family's former church looked just like that, only he was a nuclear engineer and not gay.

Didja have all the challenges you needed in college? It would be silly to do advanced math now... there's a time for that.... I think in college it can help keep your brain from being melted by Liberal Mind Rays.

Heh!! I'm not eating it either...it's too much carbs for me. If I'm gonna eat that much empty carbs, it's gonna be on something REALLY good...like the Paradise Donuts down the street. Or a big bowl of Captain Crunch.
i'll make an eggwhite omelet for myself...except I like a little yolk in it so I put one of the Americauna eggs in it...they lay tiny little eggs! The yolks are about the size of a large marble.
Gives my egg a bit of yolk flavor without all that saturated fat.
I really wish I could get out there and donate blood so I can find out my cholesterol! Also, Jumanji came in at the library and I can't get over there to get it! Argh!
Steve comes home early to take Matthew to Latin tomorrow...I'll get all this done then, maybe...

I don't use calc for much of anything these days. Honestly my grades in it were not spectacular. But getting past it opens a lot of doors to different career paths, many of which are interesting and many that don't really require math. Personally I am not a big fan of the theoretical math stuff like number theory. I like my math practical and functional.

What on early would I need calculus for?
Cuz' it's a beautiful discipline. Calc studies the rate of change. The change can be a physical process such as movement, or a chemical process, market forces, populations, the movements of the stars and planets, or just about anything.
It's like getting to open the back of a clock while it's running and see the gears ticking away. It is a glimpse into the inner workings of all things.
I'm seriesly math challenged. I make LOTS of careless errors. But I get concepts and seeing everything fit together is a beautiful and moving thing for me. Anyway, without starting a crevo debacle... Learning calc was a very philosophical and faith-promoting process. It deepened my appreciation for the perfection of every detail built into this world.

I think in college it can help keep your brain from being melted by Liberal Mind Rays. You can also solve that by going to a conservative Christian college. ;-)

I liked the syrup!!! I have always suspected as much and have been so frustrated with myself because I just go blank when try to understand. Like trying to see the world through a blindfold.

The change can be a physical process such as movement, or a chemical process, market forces, populations, the movements of the stars and planets, or just about anything. Okay, I can see why some folks would study it. I just don't feel like I've missed much of life because I didn't.
On another note (and don't tell Stinky), Corin is feeling a strong urge to awaken his inner artist. Those paint brushes have been idle for too long. I need to forget the excuse of not having the space I need. I just need to do it.
I'm hesitant to make New Year's resolutions. But it's time I took seriously 1) my online seminary studies, 2) writing and 3) art.
But then, life happens...

do not tailgate Lil' on her way home. She'll go 5mph *under* the limit just to tick you off. :)Great rant and good morning!

I'd forgotten you painted, if you'd ever mentioned it! You'll have to show us some of your work if you get back into it.
I don't usually make New Year's resolutions...but I'm determined to do more writing this next year, instead of ONLY writing during November. I seriesly doubt I'm gonna write the great American novel next year...but maybe I'll get closer...
I need all the practice I can get!
