The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Can't find it lately so I had to settle for store brand. Although, Publix does make a fairly decent ginger ale!

It will be good to see you again as well. It's been quite a while since the KC-BBQ tri-state mini-moot with OT.

Figgers... :-)

I'd prefer to be in the ranger class myself. I just don't see myself as a dwarf, or an elf... and I'm not so swift with horses... I guess I'm stuck with ranger life.

Seems like forever since the moot, doesn't it?

I'm truly looking forward to the next one. I'll be bringing my oldest along this time since she insists she needs to see her friend with the same name again. *smile*

That was GOOD, thanks for posting it. It is simply amazing how most all of it made sense. Guess I should knock of reading 'Federal Register' for fun. :-)

Yes, it truly is!

I wonder if we'll all be able to make it through all 3 extended versions in one day!

Late? It's only 10:15pm on a Friday night! Let's party!

Kidding with ya. I remember when I used to be able to stay up all night, take a quick 2-3 hour nap, shower and go to work like nothing.

Those days are faaaaaar behind me now, as proven on Sunday night when I got home from a Halloween party at 4am and had to be to work at 9. Was not pretty!

And no, I didn't want to be there until 4am but my sister never showed up to give me a ride, so I was stuck until the band finished and I got a ride home.

To: RMDupree; g'nad

I'll bet we break up THE MOVIES into manageable sessions, interspersed with the launching of various projectiles toward yonder targets, plus as I understand consumption of vast quantities of (insert).

Hmmm. makes me wonder now what G'nad was hauling those logs for. Obstacle course? Log cutting contests? Caber toss?

There are pre-game speeches, and then there are pre-game speeches.

Patton's address to the troops at (shucks... was it Bastogne? I think it was...) was magnificent.

Ike's note to the troops about to hit the beaches on D-Day.

But damn... the couple of places the LOTR that are guaranteed to make me tear up are the part where Theoden runs down the line of horsemen slapping his sword on the line of pikes. "Ride! Ride now! Ride for ruin! And a red dawn!!!" I'm pretty much gone at that point.

But nothing makes me wanna grab a sword and swing as much as Aragorn's "I have seen in you a fear that would take the very heart of me. There may come a day when the strength of men fails, but IT IS NOT THIS DAY." [snif] but by the time he gets to the "I bid you stand! Men of the West!" by then i'm already long gone.... :-)

It's a Man thing.

Just like I fret everytime I hear Merry say "There won't BE a Shire, Pippin." and choke up when Frodo says "I'm glad you're with me". That, my friend, it is Hobbit thing. ;-D

My Dad was with the IV infantry division in 1944, went ahore on D-Day at Utah, before the first wave, with a radio I think...then the Hedgerows, the liberation of Paris, Hurtgen Forest, finally the Bulge, where the IV(th) was attached to Patton. Later, right into Germany. The IV division had over 200% casualties by then, in less than 2 years. At that point, they were slated for the Pacific, but luckily the Japanese surrendered first.

Wish he was still around, would be interested in hearing his opinion of Mr Kerry's soldiering, don't think it would be flattering.

Yeah, I like those parts of ROTK, too.
