The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I sure have a bunch of mcguffins in this story. :)

Soo...what's the definition of mcguffin?

Mine is easy to write. Just boring. Maybe this weekend I'll write her a week or so worth of entries and then go back to my "real" story.

Right now they're chatting with a depressed nearsighted dragon. Fun times, fun times.

Good morning!

I'll be out all morning. Going to a workshop. Conflict Management...heh...I could show them some alternative means...

But I get free snacks and a lunch out of it, and the way things are until next paycheck, that's a wonderful thing...

And I can always bring my notebook and pretend to be taking notes when I'm actually writing. OK, so I wouldn't quite have the guts to do that, but...it's a nice thought.

THAT would make a great t-shirt.

Heh, neener, neener would be fun, but I just got an idea that would turn the libs on their heads by using their own pro-communist slogan. I'd like to see a white t-shirt with the famous 'county map' in the red and blue, which shows just who voted FOR Bush, with the slogan "Better RED than dead"!

That's the way I'm feeling this morning. I saw my lie'bral co-worker's car this morning she's got that "No one died when Clinton lied" and a couple of other Kerrorist stickers.

I've been polite and we've had a cordial relationship. We share some similar interests.

But I'm done. If it's not about work, I don't plan to speak to her. Life is too short to deal with idiots.

If they want to be divisive, let them.

We'll lead the country without them.

MacGuffin

A MacGuffin is a plot device that holds no meaning or purpose of its own except to motivate the characters and advance the story. The device is usually used in films, especially thrillers. The term "MacGuffin" was invented by Alfred Hitchcock, who made extensive use of MacGuffins in his films.

One example of a MacGuffin in Hitchcock's movies is the bottle of "radioactive diamonds" in Notorious: it is the reason the story takes place, but it otherwise means nothing. The story could just as easily have used "uranium" (originally meant as the contents of the bottle), gold or extraordinary rare wine as the plot device.

The best Hitchcock MacGuffin is considered by film scholars to be the one used in North by Northwest. In this movie, the MacGuffin is the character of "George Kaplan", who is being chased by the enemy spies. Roger Thornhill (Cary Grant) is mistaken for Kaplan by the spies, and so they chase him instead. Thornhill spends the course of the movie trying to find George Kaplan himself without realizing that George Kaplan does not even exist. Both the hero and the villains of the movie are chasing nothing more than a puff of hot air, making this a true MacGuffin.

What's going to be admittedly fun to watch over the next weeks is the internal bloodletting that will happen within the Pali power players. There is no line of succession for Arafat. There isn't even anybody else allowed to sign checks.

I was reading a thread last night that said that no one else has the information about those bank accounts he uses for the Pali Authority. Heh, wouldn't it just be justice if they can't find the money to pay their suicide bombers to do their murderous work? Poor Suha might have to actually go out looking for a job because she won't have any more income.
Heh, heh.
