The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

That would be nice, you guys can be my family for the homecoming:) THings may change, as always with the army. We had a sandstorm today that turned into a rain storm. It got real cold real fast. Had to dig out some warmer clothes. Kinda like WA today with the cold rain and all, except lots more sand.

I'm not really behind except in my mind, but I am worried because I feel like the story is slipping through my fingers. I hadn't intended to bring in certain characters yet, but they're there already. I feel like I don't have much left to tell. And I really do need to get ahead, if I'm going to be OK in the next few weeks. My goal is to hit 25k by Monday, I think, or possibly even surpass that.

Personally, I'd have dropped his carcass into the sea on the way over from Paris.

Heh..."Oops! Did anyone just hear a splash?"

On the other hand, that'd be a pretty horrible way to pollute the sea. Ick.

Yeah, well, something in the ocean would eat it. Maybe.

My goal is also to be at 25k by Monday. Hopefully, that will happen, though it'll involved writing 11k this weekend.

Hmmm... sounds like you need a plot complication to me. Although when your story starts writing itself, to me that's a good sign. Means you're doing something right.

Ok, bus time! I managed 250 words this morning, should I feel happy?

My sister was on a trip to Israel (this is back in the 70s) and it snowed in Jerusalem.

They were all complaining until the guide looked at them and said "Do you know how many people get to see snow in Jerusalem?"

(BTW, I watched "Office Space" last night)

Did you think it was funny? There are some good lines in that movie!

Well...I do have something of a plot complication, in that I planned to have her meet kinda the classic romantic lead character - tall, dark and handsome and a bit serious. But then a little goofball of a guy showed up at the laundromat (thanks to the Hobbit Holers) and I think he's the right one. Right now she thinks he's incredibly annoying, though, mostly because he keeps getting in the way of her efforts to meet Mr. Tall-Dark-and-Handsome.

But I'm discovering just how truly lousy I am at writing romance of any kind, even the innocent stuff. I just haven't done it - guess this is good practice in that way! But I don't like my character very much right now. She's not been very nice to her true Mr. Right.

250 words in a sitting ain't bad! 11k in a weekend, though...whew! I don't think I could do it!

I still want a keyboard for my PDA...I think I could get a lot more done away from the computer. But I have other stories waiting in the wings, so if and when I get that, it'll be nice to have.

I think if I saw snow in Baghdad, I'd be trying to remember all the things that were predicted to happen on a cold day in Hell. ;~D

It does have a certain "flair."

It was a riot. Mainly because it's so true to life...particularly MY life.

Rasputin IS Lumberg...caught me in the elevator this morning with "are we ready for Monday? That's a priority you know."

"Oh, really?" What an idiot.

Of course I had half a dozen emails that take priority over the priority...

I guess it's good that I just don't care.
