The Hobbit Hole XVI - Still round the corner there may wait...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Still round the corner there may wait...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I hope so too...

Weren't you supposed to hear something about a raise, say, back in June?

(program still running...)

*sigh* The union is still under negotiation.

Basically there are a few people at the top (making quite literally over eight times what I make) who are determined not to let anything be resolved.

I'm beginning to think it's never going to happen.

Aww... I shouldn't have brought it up. Sorry.

Me, I'm just happy because until I have to start using heat (and I'm willing to be a little chilly, like tonight) my combined utilities are somewhere around $30 a month. But it's going to get colder soon... without nice warm afternoons to keep things from being too chilly.

LOL, PE just showed me what an N type connector was a week or so ago. Open a window, or cook something. It works for me :-)

What are you building?

Are the all poping in the same way? A brush with a curb can destroy a sidewall without much trouble. That is one of the few ways a person's driving habit/skill can consistently take out tires.

I'm trying not to think about the truly cold weather coming up.

I'm going to see how cold I can keep it and get away with it, I guess.

I'm still completely unsure how I'm gonna get to the wedding, let alone Entmoot...but that's another thing I guess I just gotta deal with when it comes.

Sorry to be so negative tonight! This is the first birthday I really haven't WANTED a birthday. I mean...presents are nice, but I wish I could have paused some other things a couple of years ago. So...I've been kinda down these past few days.

Time for bed...gotta get up early for church! And I've got sourdough to bake after church and before I head out to the house. Hope it works...

I think they've all been different! One was a leaky valve, I think, another a firewall blowout, another was really her fault - she ran over a bag in the road that turned out to have a glass bottle in it. I dunno about the fourth. Most have happened suddenly on backroads without a curb anywhere nearby.

So...I have no idea!

I was down that last few days also. That is why I spend much of today building things. That always cheers me up.

The one tire I popped - really just popped it off the rim - was because another car ran me half into a ditch. I was only doing about 25, but it was a very curvy Pennsylvania road (ie, the road edge was not very smooth, and the ditch was nasty).

Don't go broke getting yourself to this wedding. If you're all going, wouldn't it be cheaper just to drive out there?

OK, I'm really headed to bed after this post...honest!

The wedding is in WA, so driving just isn't feasible. Timewise it would be crazy, plus with gas and staying somewhere at least a few times along the way, it would be more expensive.

But...since I'm supposed to be a bridesmaid (though I still don't think I really wanna), I kinda HAVE to find a way. Dad will most likely spring for hotel costs...but then that's the other problem. I had hoped to take an extra few days so I could visit folks and see the area instead of flying in the day before and back the day after like Dad really wants to do...but that means making my own arrangements, and I dunno how that will work out. We'll see, I guess.

Good night!

Sigh... I'm wondering if the program not finishing is the result of really slow code, or a bug... hmm...

cool! If we had one of those PE's woes would be solved. We ARE getting one of the Force-12 flag poles soon. 'Twas PE's birthday present... 2 months ago.

oooo nifty toys. One of these days I sill setup a real ham station but it will have to wait till I get a house... one more reason to get one I guess.

What I built is basically this:

Just need one more connector so I can try it out. I want to beam wireless Internet to the park across the street so I can sit over there on a nice day and be connected.

I am wiped out tonight. I was good and had my coffee limited today, and much earlier in the day than yesterday.

I am definitely paying for my late bedtime last night. bittygirl woke up at 6:45 this mornin, elf-boy woke up at 7. That makes 4 hours of sleep on a day that its OKAY to sleep in.

In the news, I am down 3 pounds from last week! WooHoo! That makes my month-and-a-half total to almost 20 pounds. (Drinking more water as we speak)
