My child shares a liberal's name.

Posted on 10/05/2004 1:24:34 PM PDT by fishtank

My child shares the EXACT (first and last) name of a famous (or infamous) liberal.

At least once every two weeks, someone will wisecrack to me: "Ohh, your child is so famous now.", or some other comment.

The latest one was actually to me: "So, how is your relative?"

The last two or three times this has happened about my kid, I said, "Well, if I'd known this 8 years ago, I would have named him "George W." or "Reagan"."

The joking stopped REAL fast after I've said that.

I went to grad school with a girl named Monica. When ever she intorduced herself in class, she would say, "No, not THAT Monica."

Well, that's what you get for naming him "Adolf Osama Kerry."

"I assume that your son's name is either John Kerry or John Edwards"

Happily, those two names will be completely forgotten VERY soon (fingers crossed).

My kid's name will probably persist a bit longer than those two.

P.S. Michael Reagan gets calls often from people who've named their kid "Reagan".

My daughter's second child is going to be named Reagan.
Fits a boy or a girl.
I'm really proud of her.

At the time, Unfortunately for you, 99.9% of the population never heard of this man. (except for veterans that is). Clinton used to call him the invisible Senator. How he has risen to the position he now finds himself in is one of the greatest mysteries of the universe.

Changing names is not always a bad thing. After all, would anyone buy "Polo by Ralph Lipshitz."

Any reason this is a guessing game?

Imagine history if there were a German Chancellor named Schickelgruber. Or a Soviet Party Chair named Dzhugashvili. Or a U.S. Senator named Hartpence. Or a Democratic presidential Candidate named Kohn. Or a Muslim former pop star named Stephen Demetre Georgiou.

It's not a guessing game. But it's a fun game for me to play when I make my witty riposte.

Imagine the joy I get when I'm able to use the names "George W." or "Reagan" to a snotty liberal. It's like a crucifix to a vampire.

I'm simply sharing my vicarious victories here on FR.

"My daughter's second child is going to be named Reagan. "
I've thought about that, but it reminds me too much of the possessed girl in The Exorcist! Yikes!

We have some friends who just had their 2nd daughter. The first they named Reagan. Pretty cool. But, for the life of me, I cannot figure out why they named their 2nd daughter Kenedi. Can you believe it?

Just think, if they have a boy, what are they going to name him? Clinton? Carter? Here's hoping they don't have boys. :-)

I've stopped trying to figure out why people name their kids the way they do.

Does it amuse me? Yes.

Do I understand it? No.

For example, a guy I know just named his kid after a character from "The Lord of the Rings", and he did NOT choose "Sam"!

(Round 2 of the guessing game begins!!!!)
