I just wanted to thank you for sharing what you did. I wont go into detail but I had a similar experience, THANK GOD.
~~~~~~~~~~~~I could just imagine the reaction I would get from my fellow Southern Baptist church members if I were to give my full testimony. And personally I dont look on it as a sign of honor. On the contrary I look on it like God had to go the extra mile with me, far more than with other Christians to redeem me.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am also a Southern Baptist and you are so right about a testimony. Let me share this with you, we are not the only ones. I know of other Southern Baptist that believe in the whole bible not just what fits there agenda.
We have discussed this at length, we all know we need to be in "the church" but some of the baptist churches are having there members sign covenants. I noticed our church put one up on the wall I haven't gotten into it with them yet just waiting to see.
My brother was in this Southern Baptist Church Atlanta,Ga. and they had everyone sign a covenant with things such as no teaching of the book of Acts (funny that should come up) and get this, no discussion of the pastor without his permission etc. This is a church with over a thousand members. My brother isn't there anymore.
Now another thing with my church is our pastor has had some visiting pastor's that are in 'the spirit', you know what I mean. Maybe GOD is getting ready for something?
I had thought of not posting but thought this was an issue worth sharing. Please keep in mind ANY type of "experience" should be suspect. I have never found a way to test whether something is from God or not.
If you'll notice some of these posts, many of these people would have been stoned in the Old Testament days simply because their "prophesies" never came true. To me all this "experience" dabbles too close to things we were never meant to explore. It is through God written word that He reveals Himself, not through some experience or feeling we may have.
Quix knocks the Calvinists but it was because of God revealing Himself to me in the manner that He did that I became a Calvinist. I didn't freely "go forward" or "make a choice" like Quix teaches. So that places my Calvinistic "experience" squarely against Quix's theological Arminian position which means 1) either my "experience" of salvation is wrong or 2) Quix's theological position is wrong. Either my experience is not God given or Quix is teaching false doctrine. In the method that I was saved Quix cant have it both ways.
The very FIRST thing God instilled within my heart when I became a "new creature in Christ" was to read His word-and I might add it was the first thing that was attacked. The only way you can have a relationship with God is through His word and through prayer. I too would leave a church that would forbid the reading and studying of the ENTIRE Bible. But DONT look for an experience from God. Hes not into parlor games. Instead, STUDY TO SHOW YOURSELF APPROVED.
