I didn't think Bush did as bad as some people think. He was more direct on some answers than Kerry. I'm still trying to figure out when Kerry will know when the soldiers in Iraq can start coming home. Bush was pretty clear on that. Also, who runs our country? The President or some global test. Would you sell Iran nuclear fuel? Not me.
Exactly. He opened strong and finished strong. That's the key. The middle is often forgotten and, even there, Kerry had some long and very boring answers. I'm a political junky and I found myself praying for the little red light to come on. Bush wasn't as polished, but I thought his time went faster than Kerry's.
Remember the piece George Will did before the 2000 election? He reprinted Bush's and Gore's answer from an article on baseball discussing whether or not domed fields were better than undomed fields. Bush said he liked to go to baseball games outdoors... period. Nothing else. Gore went on ad nauseum about the history of the stadium and the domes from the ancient times. Which answer is the average American going to respect?
That's what we saw tonight: Kerry doing a Gore.
Gosh, that's a ringing endorsement of his performance!
