Did you see that Bush had a rally of 46,000 yesterday?
In contrast, Kerry had a 100 or so at his town hall.
The contrast in public response to the candidates is startling, especially when you consider that Bush doesn't need to bus in (and possibly pay) supporters the way Kerry has. Having attended a Bush rally and freeped a Kerry rally in the same city, a few weeks apart, I can testify that the crowd response was different. The Bushies were sincerely enthusiastic and wild about their man, both while waiting in line to enter the arena and during the megaloud rally itself, while the Kerryites looked uninspired. The applause at their rally was lackluster, the bused-in guys in union T-shirts looked angry, and many in attendance admitted that the only reason they came was Ben Affleck's presence. Without him or some other celebrity on the stage to prop up Kerry/Edwards, they're drawing hundreds.
Supporters Get Incentive Plans at Bush Rallies
" Campaign rallies may be as old as politics itself, but in this year of earliests, firsts and most-expensive-evers, the Bush campaign has taken this most basic form of communication to a new state of the art, by pressing audiences to work as foot soldiers, before, during and immediately after Bush events."
In the largest political rally of his campaign, President Bush was greeted by nearly 50,000 cheering supporters Monday afternoon at the Voice of America Park in West Chester Township. Bush's arrival just before 4:30 p.m. ended a day-long bus tour that made several stops in the GOP stronghold of southwestern Ohio, including Cedarville, Springfield and Xenia.
" As his bus rolled into the West Chester park, Bush enthusiastically bounded onto the stage without a coat or tie, in a blue-checkered shirt with the sleeves rolled up.
"It lifts my spirits to see so many people," Bush said. "It's a good sign when this many people come to a rally."
