Yes, and teachers and parents used to actually be in cahoots, working together to see that children were trained to be civilized people and proper citizens. Now, teachers have become state appointed snitches mandated reporters of suspected child "maltreatment", diagnosticians of "mental" disorders and general underminers of proper parental authority and teaching.

"Sorry Melba, you can't have a bandaid or any antiseptic for that paper cut unless your parents fill out ten forms in triplicate swearing that they will not sue the school system, permit firearms in your home or smoke cigarettes."
"Hello Susie. Gosh, has it really been a year since you entered the 8th grade? What? You think that you're pregnant? Okay. I'll take you to the clinic tomorrow. And don't worry. Mom and Dad will never know."

My mom has told me that when I was in grade school, my teachers would call her in to complain about my fidgety behavior. Seems the problem was that I would finish my assignments ahead of most of the rest of the class, so I was bored, and would start looking around for something to do to entertain myself. My mom just told the teacher to give me more work when I finished the assignment. That seemed to do the trick. I wasn't being a bad kid, I just needed more to do.
