The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!

Posted on 09/18/2004 6:56:23 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

No, I made it up. Juma is a character in one of my all time favorite movies, Out of Africa. Gem just sounded good after Juma.

It's a small world, isn't it? I think he just started running Juma in competitions. I sold him this past summer, July, I think it was, and he had no barrel training at that time.

Belle is a beautiful name for a horse.

As a side note, my Grandmother's name was Ada Belle.

Well, he was running some exhibitions too at these jackpots. They were in Sept. Maybe he was one of them.

I know, that bugs me too.

Juma is probably now out of my price range.

Ever heard of Liliah? That's what my son and DIL going to name my new grandaughter in May. The first girl was named Sarah. I though that was so special that they would name her after my grandmother. Come to find out they got it off a Buffy series.

WEll I thought, still do, think she is a beautiful horse. My son and I think Mack too, thought that a was a bit sappy:) But it stuck. Funny thing, I get an inside irritation when people spell it Bell:) I always want to explain that it's Belle, and that is French for beauty:)

Too cool, I bet he was. I was thinking of calling Lance and asking for pics or a short video or something. I don't want Juma back, I think he's where he needs to be, but I would like to keep up with him. If he gets hurt for any reason and is unusable, I don't want to see him end up at the killers. I'll take him back then.

Did you know Lance from anywhere, or just from selling him the horse?

No, I've never heard of it but it sounds pretty.

Funny about the Buffy/Sarah thing. I have some friends that named their daughter Sarah because they like the Jefferson Starship song Sarah.

My next door neighbor is a professional barrel racer, she put me in touch with Lance. I think they go way back.

The baby probably going to be named after some cartoon action figure:'( They said they took Sarah with them for the ultra sound and they were showing her Liliah and the machine stopped and she asked the technician "what the hell did you do to it?"

I hadn't ever heard of her either but I don't keep up with rodeo stuff much. She's a very, very nice woman and really pretty.

Good night, have a nice ride tomorrow.
