In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of word for the day. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the word of the day; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....
plaudit \PLAW-dit\,noun:
plaudits; noun, plural
1. A round or demonstration of applause.
2. Enthusiastic approval; an expression of praise.
The aim of the wise man was no longer the plaudits of the masses but autarkeia, or self-sufficiency.
--Peter France, Hermits: The Insights of Solitude
Etymology: Latin plaudite, "applaud" (said by players at the end of a performance), from plaudere, "to applaud."
Excellent now you can move over to the new WFTD thread...it's up and running in case you haven't been to it yet?
YES, HE IS! ...Thanks for your reply. I'm a newbie - not only to FreeRepublic, but to the internet and even to my obsession with politics (since 9-11). I don't know what the heck I'm doing, or if I can post this on an old "Word for the Day", but I'll try. I love this place! I live in NY, but I am not alone!
Arghhh! Again? :^)
Since they sneaked it in on a weekend, we didn't get to have any fun with it this year.
Yes, they finally died and I had to get new ones. The new ones are very nice and I know that Robert will like them...
