Thanks to a special invitation from Jim Robinson (Free Republic's founder), World Ahead Publishing is pleased to present Aman Verjee and Rod D. Martin, the editors of "Thank You, President Bush: Reflections on the War on Terror, Defense of the Family, and Revival of the Economy"
Mr. Verjee and Mr. Martin are excited to be here to answer your questions and chat with the Free Republic community. They'll be discussing the reasons they created "Thank You, President Bush," why so many conservative legends (such as Shlafly, Meese, Norquist, and Dobson) were eager to work with them on this book, what it was like being at the Republican Convention to unveil their new title, and anything else that you are interested to know.
So don't be shy - post a greeting to Aman and Rod and learn more about what went into their landmark new book!
ABOUT THE EDITORS
Aman Verjee is the co-editor of Thank You, President Bush (World Ahead Publishing). A Muslim born in Kenya and raised in Canada, Mr. Verjee is the co-founder of "American Thunder," a leading NASCAR magazine, and currently serves as the director of strategy for a Silicon Valley company. He studied public policy at Stanford University and traded bonds on Wall Street before obtaining a degree from Harvard Law School.
Rod D. Martin is also a co-editor of Thank You, President Bush. A conservative Christian from Little Rock, Arkansas, Mr. Martin is Chairman of Vanguard PAC and the author of the political column "Vanguard of the Revolution." He previously served as the Director of Policy Planning & Research for Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee. Mr. Martin studied at Cambridge University and was elected student body president at Baylor Law School.
Since 9/11 President Bush has lived up to every hope I had for him. Thank you for wirting your book, I look forward to reading it.
what do you see for mortgage rates? They seem to have surprised everyone, staying this low? I thought I had missed the peak time for re-fi, but apparently not...
Hear hear. And let me also add that the "Democracy can't take root in Muslim lands" view completely ignores Turkey, not to mention (in broader terms) our experiences with Germany and Japan (two societies which were NOT predisposed to modern democratic government, and one of which had much more serious religious objections than does any Muslim nation). I think freedom is far too powerful an idea to be constrained by the more parochial view, regardless of various details attendent thereto.
I will make the request for your book at Borders. I know I will have to order it, as they don't seem to have room for anything on their tables except anti-Bush books and Clinton biographies.
' I think freedom is far too powerful an idea to be constrained by the more parochial view, regardless of various details attendent thereto.'
seems Iran was headed in that direction back 1978 - I have met many sophistocated Iranians who fled...
thank you! Be sure to remind them that a 50-50 country in a super-close election means they're leaving half their potential profits on the table if they don't cater to the other side too. :)
Indeed. Another Jimmy Carter masterpiece that.
I will make my case again, though.
Thanks, and good night!
I just checked your home pages for FreeRepublic, and see you both just registered.
time to 'fess up. You don't have to tell us your Freeper names, but is this your first week here or are you long time Freepers?
Well, good night to you too.
I have very much enjoyed this, and once again would like to thank Free Republic for the opportunity. Everyone has really made this a great success, and I'm very grateful for everyone's participation.
One more time: the book is THANK YOU, PRESIDENT BUSH, and we really encourage everyone to go get it and -- perhaps even more importantly -- to promote it to all your friends. The left (as always) has a real advantage on this score, and we really do need everyone's help. On the other hand, I think we've produced something really worthwhile, which can be a true help to all of you, in (1) giving you the answers you need to fight back against the liberals, and (2) also answering the very legitimate questions many conservatives raise against the President as well. We've tried to be very complete, very fair, and very entertaining. I think you'll all be very pleased.
Finally, let me plug my own website: http://www.theVanguard.org I think you'll find a lot of resources there -- including our book! -- which would be extremely useful to this community.
Once again, thanks to everyone, and good night.
For freedom,
Rod D. Martin
Islamic democracies
Turkey and Indonesia are good examples of Islamic countries where democracy has occurred.
A respectable cadre of scholars believes that civil societies that form democracies typically have a few things going for them that Iraq (for instance) does not:
1) A tradition of pluralism;
2) Respect for government institutions; and
3) A institutional basis for human rights.
Of course, one could have said the same thing about China about 20 years ago, and look how freedom has taken root there!
Political freedom will follow inevitably economic freedom and opportunity, wherever it takes root.
Thanks everyone for showing up. Please check out our book at www.worldaheadpublishing.com, and check out the other wonderful titles that World Ahead has planned.
Good night!
Aman Verjee

Adios.
