Word For The Day, Friday, 9/3/04
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
POSIT: verb. (pa-zit) tr.v. pos·it·ed, pos·it·ing, pos·its
1. To assume the existence of; postulate. See Synonyms at presume. 2. To put forward, as for consideration or study; suggest: If a book is hard going, it ought to be good. If it posits a complex moral situation, it ought to be even better (Anthony Burgess). 3. To place firmly in position.
Etymology: [From Latin positus, past participle of pnere, to place. See position.]
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
I have heard and read that she had other lovers besides Foster, but the affairs didn't last long enough for X42 to notice because the guys involved were afraid of being arkancided
She just did that to try and make Bill jealous. I don't doubt she has been with men, but it's pretty obvious where her preference lies.
I am reading Karen Hugh's book, it's great. Like chatting with a girl friend. I caught her on cnn last night and she was speed talking answers to all their critiques....it was three to one and she held her own. I put my RR book aside after he died, I had to have a break. And I still have a bookmark in Zell Milller's book, so I have a few chapters to go there as well. I tend to leave books in my car and around the house and read a few at a time.
I don't think that's true about fat men though, do you?
I admire Karen Hughes but she shouldn't have admitted writing the speech for the twins. That wasn't her best work. Or her second best. Or...you get the idea. But they are just kids, so I gave them a pass. :-)
Is she the one? I don't think it was that bad. Unlike many around some threads here, I think the twins will turn out just fine. Everyone needs to just give them a break.
I've got to go down and light the grill for steaks pretty soon-hubby is stopping on the way home to get a haircut, so I have a little more time. I've been running downstairs between postings, making hamburger patties for tomorrow evening's Labor Day road party-I've lost count of how many I've made, but I think it is 35 or so-they're all neatly stacked with foil between, and I'm sick of seeing ground beef. I've got a salad to make tomorrow, then I've got to go down to the neighbor who is hosting the party because of his fancy outdoor cooking setup-I told him I'd come at 5:00 to start grilling the meat with him-there are burgers, chicken, sausage and hot dogs to do. I took over the grills at the Fourth of July party when I could see that he was getting overwhelmed trying to multi-task by monitoring two grills and an outdoor cooktop-men really don't multi-task very well at all. This time hubby volunteered me to grill and told me after he'd already done it (sigh)...
karen's book was good and so was Zell's. i didn't care for the twins speech, it went on way too long and tended to make me cringe. i suppose xsteen isn't the best judge but she was rolling her eyes about it also.
Fat men-probably not. I think most men are so egocentric that they believe it doesn't matter to women-it reminds me of that song "Girls Lie Too"...
I have a roast in the crockpot for dinner tonight. Tomorrow we drive to Long Island for a road trip. We will be home by night. We have to pick up a car. We have no plans for the holiday weekend. Your party sound nice.
The twins' speech made me think of having a bucket of Karo syrup thrown on me...
I am still having trouble reconciling the Zell I saw at CPAC, who was such a gentleman, smiling all the time - with the "Give 'em hell" Zell from the other night.
On larry king one night he had 41 with a son and a grandson, who attends GWU.......that was cute........he was a chubby freckle faced kid four years ago, he is now a good looking Republican college student. They are a nice family. Normal and nice.
Howdy ladies..back from school open house. YES!!!!! same teacher as last year!!! I'm thrilled to pieces. The only thing not yet decided is which 2nd grade reading class she will be placed in. That decision will be within 2 weeks, after testing of others is complete and they start making the divisions.
But I swear my daughter must have an evil twin that appears whenever she is not in that building. (meaning at home) The hugs and kisses and "I missed you so much, Jacqueline" coming from everyone kind of took me aback. And that was from the TEACHERS and STAFF, not classmates.
The art teacher did have a long talk with her (after the hugs and kisses) about wanting her to be one of the helpers in class this year, but it would mean she would have to learn to be quiet so she could sit up front instead of the back of the room by herself........which I discovered is where she spent most of last year.
In the city, people had block parties, but because the houses are not close together out here, there are only 18 houses on our whole road-so we have road parties. They are usually a lot of fun-the neighbors are nice people, for the most part. I keep hoping our outed democrat comes and has too many margaritas again to see if she survives another outburst, but she hasn't shown her face at a community or neighborhood function since the Fourth of July.
LOL, I am sure your daughter is just adorable. So when does school start?
I'm so glad the munchkin's teacher is the same one-that is great. I hope she'll enjoy being an art helper-the back of the room can't be much fun...
We're spending a good part of the weekend at friends' doing smething we've not done in a long time.......partying!!!
Hubby is taking off for their place (about 30 milesfrom us) with Jax in the morning to help out with the pig and the final setting up of stuff....and scoping out best available spot to set up our tent. They've got a band booked for both tomorrow and Sunday nights and another pig to go on Sunday. And I'll join them all a bit later.
Hubby works on Sunday and I have an emergency online BOD meeting that afternoon, so I will come home to do that and then when he gets home from work we'll go rejoin the festivities in one vehicle.
I'm really looking forward to it. We'll call it a day fairly early on Monday --- because we've all got kids that start school on Tuesday!!!!!!!!!!!
Tuesday - thankfully!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You don't know how happy I am that it is the same teacher.
Had she not been moved up to 1st grade I was going to make a specific request that Jax be placed in the class with the teacher who was her 1st grade reading teacher.
The 2 women grew up together and so are long time friends.......I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall if the principal was not a proponent of "looping"....IOW if the request to have the same class this year had been denied. The 2 teachers would have been fighting over which class Jax was going to be in.
If you haven't gotten the idea that I am major supporters of these two teachers...............
