The Hobbit Hole XV - Pass them by! Pass them by!
See our freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net home page! ^

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Pass them by! Pass them by!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

ehhh, horses are ok, so long as they don't jump out in front of my car while I'm driving at high speeds.

I think horses are a lot smarter than deer though!

I can't remember the sound of snow. :-( I was 5 years old when my family came to Florida.

I do like a good thunderboomer though! Rainstorms make for the ~best~ sleeping music.

We must mini-moot again soon, my FRiend. Maybe get together for an ROTK EE viewing when it comes out next month?

...did you ever get that USB card to work?

It works, as a USB card, and USB items plugged into it works.

However, it still causes startup whenever power is applied, and disallows power down after shutdown and recycles to a new startup unless power is interrupted manually.

Therefore, my surge protector has become an on-off switch.

I remember thinking "This is gonna hurt,"

ROTFL!! Had a similar situation about 8 yrs. ago. Clare and Joseph were little and sitting in the back seat of our old 'land yacht', a big GMC 2500 conversion van. I was going about 30 mph and had started up a slight incline when the van just started turning all on its own!! I held the wheel loosely, knowing not to jerk it, and just watched the guardrail on the left side of the road loom into view as the van did a 180! Ended up solid in the oncoming lane, so I just headed back the way we had come! Shook for a good few minutes after that episode.

I try to stay in when it's icy, but with Joseph back in school, I'll have to get out some mornings when it's slushy. His school tends to either have a two hour delay, or cancel altogether when the snow and ice are bad. There are boys at the school who drive in each day from 40-50 miles away, and the school doesn't want them on the road under hazardous conditions.

Especially since they kept plowing me in.

I really HATE when that happens because what they plow up at the foot of the driveway is usually slushy and hardens into solid ice which is a PAIN to shovel. You almost have to get a pick axe out for that!

I miss Christmas in Germany

Kristkindlmarkt!

Gluhwein and spiced coffee!

Speaking of Gluhwein, this non-drinker says if you only have as much as the German parents give their kids, it ain't drinkin', though I suppose Bill W. or Stuart Smalley would have words with me on that :)

I have no idea what's causing that...

Few things more magical than a heavy snowfall at night.

I love standing outside at night during a heavy snowfall. Most sound is muffled, and it is, as you said, magical.
