The Hobbit Hole XV - Pass them by! Pass them by!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Pass them by! Pass them by!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

*sigh* I miss Christmas in Germany. Of course, it's better being close to family...but there's something about being in Europe during that season - soooo much history, for one. And I didn't feel like it was quite as commercialized, though maybe that was partly just being on base. The military is such a family...I do miss that around the holidays - being with big groups of people who are all united in being far from home.

But snow is so pretty! Even if it IS a pain to shovel.

I'd never give up my four seasons without a struggle! True, most have downsides (autumn is the exception), but I do like having them!

Have you figured out a plot yet?

Heh...I've said this before, but I was explaining NaNo to my 16 year old brother (I ALMOST have him talked into trying) and complaining that I had no plot, and he immediately said "Who needs a plot?" I think he'd fit right in...

Ummm...no. Maybe I should do something Twilight Zone-ish where the guy's appliances attack him?

Hello everyone!

I'm no fan of snow, but it sure is pretty to look at when your sitting inside looking at it float right outside the window!

I guess my thoughts on snow and ice are tainted by the memory of Chicago winters and the day my mom was driving me to school and hit a patch of ice, which slid us into the back of a school bus. We weren't hurt, but I can still remember the sheer panic!

I've been lucky so far! No winter accidents...but I just KNOW one day I'll get too cocky and end up taking a curve too fast or something. *sigh*

Luckily we don't get all that much ice here...it's too cold. ;-) Even the snow is mostly pretty dry stuff.

Hehehe....just think. Panicked Guido tearing down the street with a toaster in hot pursuit dragging its power cord behind.

wow... same second even.

Hey there! I got a great view of St Helens on my flight down today. Flew right by it. there was some steam, and maybe some smoky-looking ash (not sure) drifting downwind.

I miss Christmas when I was a child - The Virginia countryside.

Seems like things were special then, way out in a rural area, what few bright lights folks put up, they seemed to burn all the brighter.

Snow isn't really bad, I've come to find out.

It's ice that causes traffic troubles, so I'd rather avoid it if I can. Especially that black ice garbage!

Ramius delights in shoving through the Hobbit Hole doorway the same time as I do. Maybe he's got some kind of spyware on my PC. *grin*

I do still get that! We usually do at least one trip to drive around and look at lights. I love that...especially pretty when we have snow. The lights reflect on the snow and it makes everything very bright! I used to think they were like fairy lights...

Or maybe elvish, considering Christmas lights were used to make Lothlorien what it was in the movies!
