The Hobbit Hole XIV - Hill and Water Under Sky

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Hill and water under sky

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Have you been to church? I'm leaving in ten minutes. Man, talk about twiddling your thumbs, I don't know what to do with myself with all this spare Sunday morning time... hope it's not disrespectful to be hunting down anime...

Speaking of which, seen any more FMA? And is ksen coming back soon? I want to ask you two whether you'd prefer to have the not-bad fansubs of the latest four episodes, or wait for who knows how long until the group I've been using gets those translated...

I've been and am back and had breakfast - my treat for the week: blueberry buckwheat pancakes. They were good! Now I'm drinking coffee and trying to catch up, but I'm soooo sleepy still. Was sleepy all day yesterday, too. Jim is convinced there's something in the air right now that a bunch of us are allergic to, 'cause yesterday all of us were tired and sneezy and kinda stoopid.

I'm still only on episode 28 or so of FMA, so I have a bit to go before I need the next group of episodes...but if the fansubs aren't bad, that'd be fine, too, as far as I'm concerned!

Yes, I can't believe they decided to move us back there.

Sorry I haven't been around much, our internet service has been screwing up, not to mention that daughter is home for a little while, so have been trying to spend time with her as well. This year is her last at college, time rolls by.

We looked at moving to Adelphia, but it was going to be too expensive since there are no cable lines coming onto the property, or even in the house. So, hopefully Earthlink will get its act together soon.

What's going on in the Hole?

Watch more, I've got several animes waiting in the wings to share with you... need to preview some of them a little more before I send 'em to ksen, to warrn him whether the kids can see them or not.

Off to church now! See you when I get back.

Some of the Washington contingent will be meeting JimRob this weekend...I think that's the biggest news.

Morning Sam; Have you had a chance to check out the link I sent you by Freepmail? Been reworking some osage staves into roughed-out bows.

Otherwise been gardening aka cleaning plant beds of various colluvial and alluvial debitage, three large recycle mulch bags full, they're on the covered front porch as it is raining, as I type.

Back from church. Am not entirely sure what to think. Can't judge the preaching as the pastor wasn't there. More hymns and less happy-clappy than I had any right to expect. But it didn't seem as Reformed as I'd like. And the translation they provided for the responsive psalm was... weird. Very modern language.

Is there a video game where you can have fantasy historical/sf battles like this? If not there should be! :)

You're probably right on the Star Destroyer and Easy Company scenarios. On the Armada vs. ironclads, I was thinking the steam engines' manueverability would be nullified by the fact that the ironclads would be surrounded. I'm assuming at least some of the Armada's guns could penetrate the ironclads (some of the Armada's 130 ships had better guns than others), since cannonballs were initially designed as seige weapons to blast through stone fortresses, and since there are cannonball dents in what remains of the ironclads (there's a museum online with some pics); but I can't claim to know that for sure. As far as penetrating below water level, I was thinking the most feasible way to do that would be via ramming rather than cannonball.

Have a good trip!

Sounds like a mixed review on the service. How many options do you have within reasonable distance for church attendance?

BTW check your email for something silly :)

A few. There may or may not be an OPC; and there are two different Reformed churches (from the Dutch tradition) within fifteen miles.

I'll let you know if it ever comes through, everything you've sent me lately has been delayed for a day at least.

Dutch Reformed is a continental Calvinist relative of Presbyterianism, right?

Weird on the email delay--I wonder what's causing that. Anyway, when you get it, it's pretty funny :)

Yeah, that's right. They're close enough that I should be comfortable at one, if I decide not to stick with the PCA.

That's good you have a few options within travel distance. Hopefully one of them will prove a good fit for you. I'll keep praying about that.

I need to work out here; back later. What are your plans for today?

What's modern language?

We mostly use the NAB for services...so I guess I'm used to pretty modern language.

Heh...our church is gonna do a LOTR marathon (I'm assuming theatrical releases) in September. It says for high school students and young adults...but I think the "young" is gonna get stretched a bit. I know a lot of not so young adults who went to every film, too. They have a big screen TV. Should be fun! The sound is bound to be lousy, but I've seen these movies before, so I should be able to figure out what's going on...

Well, these verses were printed on hand-out sheets. They were probably accurately translated, but when I get Bible verses with phrases like "I don't need to worry" blah blah blah (Not exactly what it said but that's the gist) it's a little off-putting.

Heh, LotR marathon is great! And you better not be thinking you don't qualify as a young adult...
