I seriesly doubt that a comic store will just have fansubs "lying around". These days you almost always get told to "download them yourself".
A good place to start is www.downloadanime.org. I think they have info about exactly what you need to download stuff, too. That's where I've found links to Samurai 7.
I'm beginning to think they'll turn anything into anime... the next big (among anime buffs) film to come out of Japan's going to be Howl's Moving Castle, which is a children's fantasy novel by an Englishwoman...
I think so, too. Let me know when you get to the part where Pearl is singing a duet with Brainguy.
It's ahead. I haven't gotten to "The Place" yet. Here's Peter Lorre now.
He's at The Place now. Not to be confused with The Other Place.
Pearl, Pearl, Pearl, Pearl, Pearl.
Duet starting.
I really do like pies.
I was thinking/hoping more that maybe he knows people who download them/import them. He's definitely got a lot of manga anyway.
Thanks for the link!--I bookmarked it. Wow, looks like there's a ton of stuff there. I imagine I'll have to sift through to find out what's good vs. what's junk.
I think you're right about them turning anything into anime. I think it's almost as fluid a medium there as TV and movies are here--it's not like something where you only do certain genres like it is here.
Guess I should read the novel version of "Howl's Moving Castle" before the movie comes out.
Movie!
The scary thing about that duet is it's the kind of junk they put on public TV :)
"Lustrous loving. . ."
And then that fake distant clapping--LOL!
No, she wasn't, LOL!
A kiss is still a kiss
This movie really sucks. . .
Tom Wolf with a thyroid problem just entered.
A friend of mine who lived over there for a while told me that it's pretty much everything, yeah. Part of it is that it's really hard to make live-action stuff when there's so little land.
Yeah, while I tend to watch more SF/fantasy oriented anime, there's all sorts. I think we tend to get exposed to the stuff that appeals to teens/twentysomethings because that's what fansubbers are, mostly, and they do what they like; and the companies that translate it for over here aim at that same market. People ten years older than I am for the most part still see cartoons as kids' stuff. Or for "weirdoes" like you or Bear.
Note: getting stuff to download is slightly more complicated than clicking a link. Like I said, poke around for documentation. And you've got to have at least dsl, I imagine it would work with dialup but it takes me, on a good day, over an hour to download a lovely new episode of FMA. And that's a popular series that usually has plenty of share-ers.
"I'll have what I'm having!"
Slapping him seemed to be a good start.
Kitchen alert!
"Or for "weirdoes" like you or Bear."
Hey! :) I'm not weird, I'm just extra-cool :)
Interesting about them not having enough space to film live-action. I guess that makes sense given how crowded Japan is.
I'd like to see what non-SF/fantasy anime is like. Wonder if there's a catalog somewhere.
I wouldn't mind taking an hour to download an episode of FMA, as long as I can save it afterwords. What bugs me is when it takes that long to download something and then every time I try to play it a second time I have to start from the beginning again--that seems to happen with certain files for some reason.
Just fast-forwarded past the commercial. Bogart just walked into the bar. "Of all the public television stations in the world--hey, don't bogart that!"
"Anything could happen."
"But no matter what, we won't show it!"--ROFL!
