The Hobbit Hole XIV - Hill and Water Under Sky

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Hill and water under sky

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

There are a lot of roads caving in and still the threat of that dam breaking. The ground was soggy already. Nowhere for the water to go.

I can't believe all the tropical hits central VA is taking.

I remember Hurricane Hazel well enough, it hit Albemarle Co pretty hard. But it doesn't seem like too much has happened in the interim. Now tropical events are becoming a part of life.

I read in a publication recently that it's theorized that there will be above normal tropical activity in the Atlantic for 20 years or so. Bush's fault, no doubt.

Got to go, see you guys later.

gonna kiss up to the new choir director to get more solos?

Yeah, I was disappointed with the Iman, but I unnerstand why.

But I thought Silver was great. He nailed the rest of the Hollyweirdos.

sociable is good. I wuz just funnin' ya.

we've got so many ~real~ soloists that it wouldn't make much difference for us. if there's a tenor solo, there's probably 8-10 guys ahead of me who would be considered to sing it.

and if they weren't available...we'd do a different song.

heh heh heh... good, self-effacin' humor...

we got some vey good tenors... but I'm really the only bass/baritone with the capability... that's unusual...

~sigh~

Speakin' of choir directors. Just got an email from our college. Our main choir director went home to be with the Lord. He was a wonderful man and had an incredible ministry.

His wife was one of our speech teachers. She had a stroke my senior year and passed away a few years later.

Last year, wife and I bought a bench for the campus grounds in their honor.

Service is on September 11. I'm thinkin' we'll be drivin' to Kentucky. I have to be there a couple of weeks later for an alumni board meeting, but I still think we'll go.

It was not unexpected. We've lost a lot of the folks who were vey influential in our lives.

Would love to come on out to Missouri bro, but if we go, it'll have to be a quick weekend trip.

Just because it wasn't unexpected doesn't make it ok.

Great. Somehow one of my burners was on - don't ask me how - and I put my hand down right on it. Right hand, too, so those fingers are more or less useless for anything other than (thank goodness!) typing. How'm I going to take notes? And how long was that burner on, anywaY? I hate electric stoves.

Nope.

No blisters yet. They just don't want to bend - that's why I can type, the tips weren't hurt at all.

On the pluis side, it looks like my paycheck got deposited. I was a little unsure whether they'd set up the direct deposit correctly but I'm showing a credit, so I guess so.
