Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Hill and water under sky
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

*cringe*
How I hate that song.
Only 'cuz I had to accompany the choir in high school. They sang that song and The Rose nearly every day. Arrrrrrgh.

Yeah...I can see getting pretty sick of it. But at the time it was one of my favorite songs...
I don't recall hearing it that often though! I mostly listened to country music, and just didn't hear it that often.

"Gloria" as in the U2 song?
No, but I was in elementary school during the 80s.

There was a very similar song recorded by a south american male artist. Kasey Kasem spoke of it on his "American Top 40" program, and for a while my local top-40 station would play the first half of the LB version and switch into the back end of the other.
I'm trying to look up the details at the moment...after all, this is more than 20 years ago :)

Pop singer/actress Laura Branigan was born on July 3, 1957, in the upstate New York town of Brewster. It wasn't until her senior year in high school that Branigan thought of pursuing a musical...

Heh, thanks. It's ok, I'm the one who wanted grad school. I can pay the dues...
Speaking of which, it's payday tomorrow. I should get a nice little bonus for the extra, pre-semester work!
