The Hobbit Hole XIV - Hill and Water Under Sky

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Hill and water under sky

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

you can download trialware from norton (and use it for 15 days), the you can at least download AVG. That was what I did for my mom. It worked. Then I was able to do a windows update for her. So far, no complaints.

Stupid question, but did you completely update Ad-Aware and Spybot before running 'em?

Yep, I did.

When you say "fresh install" you mean reinstall Windows?

Thanks msdrby.

Can you give me a link?

One of the things that is happening is that when I do a google search something hijacks the browser and gives me a pseudo-google search results page.

I meant starting from scratch, yes. But...if it IS a virus, the scan I mentioned works well, and doesn't require an install, other than a small plug-in. It runs from the browser.

Umm..."Voyager" fans?

Do they plan to have eight more? Or six, counting themselves?

Or just assimilate additional "family members" whan the need arises...

Heh, I've heard worse names...

Am watching and recording the BBC documentary "Lost Highway" on CMT right now... first episode was about bluegrass and roots music, second episode (on now) is about the growth of the Nashville sound.

Afternoon SuziQ - yup, read them all. Excellent reading imo. I enjoy them a lot since I lived in the rim country in AZ and had been to many of the places he has described in the books. (over 30 years ago though - some of the memories are clearer than others.)

Have y'all ready any of Tony Hillerman's novels

No, I never have... outside of my favorite genre (Science Fiction & Fantasy) I'm not very well-read at all...

Cool! Have read "The Two Faces of Tomorrow" and "Voyage from Yesteryear", and enjoyed them.

I have three; The Giants (actually a trilogy reprinted in one volume), Thrice Upon a Time and Realtime Interrupt.

I don't think I've read the ones you mention.

I will now go be ashamed in the corner for at least two minutes.

(Actually, there's a particular room I need to visit)

I am still up at the Beach house.... we have assembled the Bush/Cheney banner! This banner is coming home with us, to go out in the pasture, I think it'll be visible from the road! It comes with it's own PVC frame, and posts that will go in the ground. I think I am going to drop it over T posts, both for height, and strength.

Not sure I get this, but it looks like somebody enjoyed it, based on where I found it.

The following poem appeared in INFOCUS magazine. The original authors were Fred Bremmer and Steve Kroese of Calvin College & Seminary of Grand Rapids, MI.

A poll conducted among INFOCUS readers had established "waka" as the proper pronunciation for the angle-bracket characters < and >, though some readers held out resolutely for "norkies."

The text of the poem follows:

<>!*''#
^"`$$-
!*=@$_
%*<>~#4
&[]../
|{,,SYSTEM HALTED

The poem can only be appreciated by reading it aloud, to wit:

Waka waka bang splat tick tick hash,
Caret quote back-tick dollar dollar dash,
Bang splat equal at dollar under-score,
Percent splat waka waka tilde number four,
Ampersand bracket bracket dot dot slash,
Vertical-bar curly-bracket comma comma CRASH.

Did you get it? I mean, could you read it without the translation?

Once I saw the translation I understood it, but no, didn't recognize it until then.

But then, I'm not a 133t speaker. :)
