The Hobbit Hole XIV - Hill and Water Under Sky

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Hill and water under sky

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Corin and Suzi mentioned this idea a short while back and it's a good one!

A week's worth at a time, so folks can stay connected when they leave home by using an 800 number to dial-up into.

Yeah, that's not a bad one as earworms go :) I was thinking today what I really need is a list of good earworms to counter the bad ones.

I agree. *grinning*

Although I'd be the first to admit that I have NO technical know-how on how it would or could work.

Hehehe, any kind of diet where you can have wine isn't so bad.

Of course, I had egg porridge for dinner. Maybe I'm insane.

Well... mysql does have its limitations... perhaps it belongs in the "you get what you pay for" category. Seems to me that an UPDATE statement shouldn't have to interfere with a SELECT statement, especially if the SELECT is only creating a cursor set. A SELECT statement should be able to operate outside of record locks. But I don't play around in mysql so I don't know, and perhaps I completely misunderstand the problem. My only experiences in sql are with MS SQL server, Oracle SQL, and a little bit of some others...

I just got the next 20 Hobbit Hole knives in. Eight of them were wrapped up with a note saying that a new guy was working the laser engraver, and the engraving didn't come out too well. Parts of the lettering were either very faint, or doubled and blurry.

They are all readable, and I would, in an emergency, have no qualms about sending them to the troops. You can still somehow make out our name on them.

But the note said I'd be getting a SERIES discount on them (now that they're badly engraved, he can't get rid of them any other way), and I was thinking of passing them on to any of you folks who want a DISCOUNT Hobbit Hole knife. They'll still be "tuned" like all the other knives are, and cut just as well.

I don't know what the price is, but it should be a good deal for "cosmetic seconds". There are eight of them (I hope they don't screw up any more), and I'll let everyone know what they cost as soon as I get a final figure from him.

Niters y'all...

A data point for further convo... this is the outfit that I've worked with for our remote access needs for about two years or more now: http://www.ipass.com

They have remote access capability just about everywhere on the planet. Heck... I even have users in Kandahar and Baghdad that log in successfully with these guys.

Your mileage may vary... but these guys have the backbone network that most of the first-tier telcos (ATT, Verizon, SBC... etc) just piggyback on top of for their "own" remote dial access.

No...now its SCHOOL stuff :<.

Have been in something of a funk since this morning. had to meet with the school principle to beg her to please let us qualify our daughter as 'Catholic-Non Parishoner' so it would reduce the tuition rate. As it is we are Non Catholic/Non Parishoner, the highest rate, and with me not working, its killing us. She is a very nice lady and very understanding, but the main gist of the problem was that we would have to go through the parish priest to recognize Anglican Catholics as 'catholics.' Which means I will more than likely have ot have an interview with the priet. Which means, I will have to explain why it is I left the RCC to begin with.

Which means, I have to dig up old bones, as it were, in order to explain the horrid experience I had back in college to ultimately say "I dont really have an exact reason, I just know I don't want to come back to the RCC"

That's too bad the engraving didn't come out right. Hopefully they'll still know who it's from through word-of-mouth.

Well, I left RCC and came back, so we're not all bad, LOL! I hope you're able to work that out so you can get a reduced tuition rate, at any rate (repetition unintended, LOL!). Seems like it'd be in their mutual interests to have your daughter attend there so they should want to make it affordable.
