The Hobbit Hole XIV - Hill and Water Under Sky

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Hill and water under sky

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Hmmm, that sounds like a good method--I should try that after I advance beyond dial-up :)

I'm gonna have SSQ read your note to 2J about cholesterol. His Mama lived to the age of 78 eating ice cream every night and with cholesterol in the 300's! I don't remember her ever having any heart problems at all. She died of lung cancer after having smoked for over 45 years!

Here's something you might want to check out for the back stuff:

Back Pain

Back Pain Relief - Qigong for Healing & Prevention (video)

I do some of the stretches from this to help my lower back from sitting at the computer, and they work pretty well for me. BTW as I'm looking at the first link, I see he also has a new book on arthritis. I haven't read that one yet but his other books and seminars are really good, so it might be worth checking out.

I'm most concerned about stroke, because they run in my family.

I had the whole cardio routine run when I was having those heart palpitations year before last. Even with cholesterol of 210 and high triglycerides, I had NO underlying heart disease. My regular doc had put me on digoxin to prevent palpitations; I even had them while ON the meds! He also put me on warfarin (coumadin) to keep the blood from pooling in the heart chamber and causing clots, which would increase the danger of stroke.

When the Cardio guy gave me all the numbers and info and said there was no disease, I asked him if he thought I needed to be on the meds and he said if it were up to him, he'd take me off of them. I used that info and bullied my doc to take me off BOTH meds, and asked him what warfarin does that an 81mg aspirin doesn't do. He said not much, so I just take an aspirin every day. I still have palps from time to time, but as we've discussed, I think they're hormone related. Also, since my cholesterol has come down, the ratio of HDL/LDL is good, and my triglycerides are down, I'm in even better shape than before!

That puts you 4 months older than me. Yeah, can't say I really miss the 'me' of back then...

Feb. '77?

I was supposed to be November of '76, but came feet first and a month early. Patience has NEVER been my virtue...

I would really like to know if the high cholesterol has impacted my vessels...if I have a blockage beginning. I'm gonna talk to him about it tomorrow.

I really want to take a vey conservative approach to treatment.

Cool truck! I've about talked SSQ into getting truck when his car bites the dust. He really needs one for our remodeling stuff. He's looking for something large enough to carry a big stack of plywood or sheetrock laying down flat in the bed. He also needs something that would tow a trailer with Gimli on it! ;o)

I just found out that Toyota will start selling a gas-electric hybrid Highlander next year!! They ought to have the kinks ironed out by the time I'm in the market for a new car in 2008! I'm going to keep the Windstar through Clare and Joseph learning to drive, and get something new when they're off to college.

My Mama didn't raise no fool!

hardly... in this part of the country, yuh cain't give away a Ford... most folks want a Chevy, and everyone wants a Dodge... just hold their value better... I find that Fords are higher maintenance as well...

I found the best way to be patient is to combine it with procrastination and a dose of pure laziness. I am good at those so it works well.

Right on!

I'm good at both...and yet still impatient.

Heh...

What a tangled web we weave!

Well, given muh druthers, I'd go with a Dodge. They just didn't offer me the same deal. You'd about have to put a gun to my head to make me ever buy another Chevy. But you gotta remember, mine won't be as much of a work truck as yours.

Both trucks I've owned have been Fords. But the smaller ones. I had a Ford Courier for awhile before I bought my Civic. Then I bought a 1983 Ford Ranger at the church yard sale and drove it 'til the engine blowed up.

This one ain't mine yet. I've been talking financing back and forth today. Gonna go by and look at it tonite. It's mighty spendy.

But, the 95 Mercury Sable that I'm driving acts like it's been stuck with a Mordor blade. It won't never completely heal. I've replaced the engine and the transmission. And the transmission is acting mighty stubborn again.

~IF~ I get the truck, I'll either keep the Sable for Jr. to learn to drive and then trade it in on something respectable for him...More than likely I'll donate it to the Kidney Foundation for the tax write off. Dealer said he ~might~ be able to give me $500 for it.
