Eleventh Thread: Wedding Edition: The Hobbit Hole XI - No One Admitted Except on Wedding Business!

I just saw an ad for an anime called "Shaman King" produced by Shonen Jump, the same company whose name I see on "Kenshin" manga. Have you ever heard of it/seen it?
Divine emperor from what?
Rome.
I think it's a kids' manga, not that that automatically must be bad. "Shonen Jump" has more kids-titles, even with RK, than, say, Viz or TokyoPop, the other two major US Manga publishers.
Sigh... watching some anime here and realizing that in Anime-World, one could make a fortune selling high-blood-pressure meds.
You're still watching "Ben-Hur", you mean?
Yep. It's a long movie.
"Sigh... watching some anime here and realizing that in Anime-World, one could make a fortune selling high-blood-pressure meds."
LOL! Why's that? :)
I saw a display stand for TokyoPop when I was at B&N. They had quite a few titles. I guess now that you mention it a lot of them did seem kids/teen-oriented.
I'm watching "Malcolm in the Middle" while I'm finishing up this political biography I'm reading for my article.
Um, well, if you haven't noticed, when anyone's wounded, their blood spurts out at least a foot, spraying everything in sight, and continues to gush for several minutes.
Most manga you'll find here is teen/YA-oriented - that's who buys manga right now. Not a huge market for, say, stories aimed at middle-aged housewives.
I'd say about a third of manga is aimed at twelve year old kids; a third at the 13-18 bracket; and the rest appeals to "all ages" or to older readers, varying. There's overlap... Kenshin probably fits in the 13-ish bracket but a lot of people my age love it.
Third floor apartment. I'm not worried.
Two words. Storm surge.
I bet "Red Zone Cuba" *seemed* longer, though :)
Sure those aren't just hurricane things?
Did it ever!
"Um, well, if you haven't noticed, when anyone's wounded, their blood spurts out at least a foot, spraying everything in sight, and continues to gush for several minutes."
It's just a flesh wound :) I'm taking it this is the remaining three episodes of "Bebop"?
Hmmm--sounds like the middle-aged housewive anime market niche has rich untapped potential--if I can just come up with the right superhero. . .
I guess US comic books aim at the same demographic these days. They used to write for younger kids in the 8-12 range or so, but in the 80s the demographic shifted to teen/YA.
Intermission.
Hmm--so what was worse between "Red Zone Cuba" and "Overdrawn at the Memory Bank"?
I'm thinking of watching "Catalina Caper" tonight--a Season 2 episode I don't think I've seen before.
Dishwasher Man!
Laundry Man!
Vacuum Man!
Menu Man!
I think "Red Zone Cuba" was worse.
"Are they still in Cuba?"
