Eleventh Thread: Wedding Edition: The Hobbit Hole XI - No One Admitted Except on Wedding Business!
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |
Still round the corner there may wait |
Home is behind, the world ahead, |
You mean that movie Monty Python made about a band of midgets being chased through time? :) I haven't seen that in ages! My friends and I used to quote one of the lines from that: "Don't touch it!--it's concentrated evil!" :)
Well, except when I'm fabulously rich and own a home in Hawaii. Only then I'll hire someone to teach me to swim.
"Can't decide whether to take a nap or try to get Frodo out of Hobbiton (again)."
Yeah, I've been meaning to try that again, too--think it might help if I read the directions before trying to play this time :)
"Right now I've got the Royals game on....as if the Cubs aren't bad enough. :)"
You're really punishing yourself today, aren't you? :)
That'll work, as long as you don't have to swim to Hawaii :)
My problem with survival swimming is: I'm not-quite blind without my glasses. Once water gets in my eyes, my vision gets even worse. In a pool, that's no big deal, but if I were ever in a situation where I had to swim to stay alive, I'd be pretty much doomed.
And I'm more worried about the ice age than global warming. I can take a little heat, but when the ice comes in... brrr...
Ummm...well it's a handy thing to know how to do. You might have to fend for yourself before someone can get to you. Could you take a swimming class at school sometime?
"And I'm more worried about the ice age than global warming. I can take a little heat, but when the ice comes in... brrr..."
As a Wisconsinite, I'm with ya there! A little global warming would be welcomed here! But if it gets any colder we may as well cross summer off the calendar. Of course that would give the Packers an even bigger home-field advantage--hmmm. . .
What's your vision without your glasses? Mine was about 20/200 before I started doing my eye exercises; think it's a little better now. It's irritating not to be able to see details when I go swimming, especially since I like to skin/scuba dive. However, I find I can still see shapes, it's just the colors and details are blurred.
"I know who wins the race!"
Now if you could only find someone to bet on the outcome against you'd be set! :)
Thats the one...with the cute little boy that I thought would make an adorable Frodo. Weird but fun.
Um, I can see big blue patches - that's the sky - and big green patches - that's trees.
Seriously, I don't know numbers, but everything goes blurry right away. I can read text a foot away; at ten feet, outlines of things don't make sense any more. I can walk around without my glasses - can't cross a street, but I can walk through the parking lot or around my apartment.
It was very weird! Some of it kind of scared me as a kid. And then it was weird because Sean Connery played two different roles.
That sounds about like my vision.

Hmmm...and it's also good exercise... if treadmills and bicycles get boring...
Maybe it's because she's not of the Stoor line of Hobbits?
I can enjoy pools just fine without being able to swim. Besides, since I burn through all sunscreen and sometimes apparently through clothing, I have to be really careful about being in the water. It's a special treat, not a daily exercise mechanism.
Could be. Could be. Ya know....Sam would have been better off if he had known how to swim.
I've been exercising by walking for small errands, these days. Today I walked to the Blockbuster and back, about 3/4 of a mile each way. Not much, but something!
Plus I've got three flights of stairs to get up and down when I leave the apartment.
