The Hobbit Hole XIV - Hill and Water Under Sky

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Hill and water under sky

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I've never seen either, so my suggestion would be to watch the Olympics :)

Saw fencing today. I'm sorry...I was more impressed by the Flynn vs. Rathbone showdown in Robin Hood.

I know, there's something I'm missing, I don't appreciate the nuances, etc etc etc.

How did they score that before the invention of yellow LED's?

"We're all fencing with our Yellow LED's...
Yellow LED's...
Yellow LED's..."

"No, it isn't."

SpikeTV. And apparently at 9, not 8 (EDT), so no more dilemma :)

Oh, ok. You might want to rent it anyway, since SpikeTV is likely to edit out the best (worst) parts.

"How did they score that before the invention of yellow LED's?"

I think the person who was still alive won :)

Real fencing isn't as visually entertaining as an Errol Flynn movie because the attacks and defenses are much more practical=direct. Everything revolves around straight thrusts and countering straight thrusts, which translates into a minimum of wasted motion. A lot of the fight is felt rather than seen as one fencer tries to redirect the energy of the other's foil through very subtle changes of angle and plane. A lot of the fight is also in the footwork. It probably doesn't lend itself well to being a spectator sport.

I usually only watch the gymnastics myself, and maybe boxing and basketball. I do want to watch the Tae Kwon Do matches, too, this year. Anyone know when they're on?

I signed up for this deal at Blockbuster... unlimited rentals for a month for $15, then they hike the price and I'm going to cancel it. So I need to pick a movie for tonight. Any suggestions?

I took fencing in college...would love to get back into it, but the nearest instructor/class is way in Houston...and Id really rather not brave the traffic now.

Used to not be this bad 10 years ago...gads, I hate Lee Brown. Clinton implant.

Mmm, but I'm planning to get the "Cowboy Bebop Best Sessions", so I don't want both to be Japanese (the deal lets you have two out at a timne.)

Guess I'll go see what they've got..

Hey, I bet Nathaniel would know fencing! That could make some cool subplots.

That church secretary stuff sounds like a lot of work! I used to have this one preacher friend who handled all that stuff himself and I remember him always scrambling to get the church bulletin and everything else done every week.

This guy is charging more than twice that! He has a $200 minimum, thinks it'll take him 3-4 hours. But it's only about 2 acres.

I like "Cowboy Bebop". I'm trying to imagine how they'd do a "best sessions" format, though. The plot is pretty complex and it seems like it'd be easy to get lost if they skip episodes.

Hmmm, non-Japanese. . .maybe check what they've got in the SF section. You could also see if they've got some MST3Ks :)

Sometime when you're looking for another Asian film, check out Jet Li's early movies, esp. "Legend" and "Tai Chi Master".
