The Hobbit Hole XIV - Hill and Water Under Sky

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Hill and water under sky

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Here you can get a pint, I think. That's only two cups.

Or you could use 2Js cream substitute, if cream is something you keep around.

No, don't have cream either... I have coconut milk...

Hmm, thinking of that, I should probably have curry tonight.

The Beginning of the End where the giant grasshoppers invade Chicago.

You heard that.

From Peter Graves.

On Biography.

I have coconut milk, too!

And vegetables. And chicken. Hm...

I also want to make salsa, but that really needs to sit overnight for the flavors to mix, so that'll be for tomorrow.

But I also have everything I need to make chili. I love it when I have such tough decisions to make... ;-)

I went to the bigger grocery today and they had much cheaper prices on coconut milk and some peppery things, so I stocked up. I should be able to eat nothing BUT spicy foods for the foreseeable future, if I so desire.

Pork curry it is for me. Now, what for tomorrow? I should have lunch ready to go when I get home... maybe one of my frozen burger patties. I make them with onion soup mix for flavor.

I don't know if I've seen that one. Wasn't Peter Graves--from "Biography"!--also in "The Clonus Horror"? :)

I just looked it up--he was in it. That was an awful one :)

So which MST3K is next on the viewing list?

I'm gonna work out here--back in a little bit.

I get it for 89 cents a can, which makes two dinners for me. What prices are you seeing?

Storms like Charley and even Isabel are far from frequent.

What I meant about having the sense to get out was in reference to those, particularly elderly residents living in trailer parks. That's hurricane food.

I have Red Zone Cuba that I'm watching tonight. It's a toughie, so I hear. It's gonna need popcorn. :)

They may be only infrequently devastating at any particular spot, but you live with the possibility of them every year. That would make me crazy. I'd be white knuckling right along with 2J!

There's a "mini-quiche" recipe in the South Beach book. You make them in muffin pans. It's crustless.

Wife made me some this week with spinach and low fat cheese. Not too bad the first couple of days. ;-)

We just hired a guy to brush hog the back forty.

It's a couple acres that is overgrown, and it is a problem because we can't get around the apple tree to make the decision to either cut it down or fence it off from the horses. Right now I can't let them into the back forty area, because there are 300 apples on the ground and they'd likely eat enough to kill them by morning. We didn't know the apple tree was even in there till we cleared enough to see it this spring. We may take it out.

It's all space that is grown up with scrub brush and scrub trees. He said it would take him about 3 hours ($200) to do what would take us weeks, and a lot of hard work. He can just chop it to bits. That's a bargain. He cant do it for a couple weeks, but we agreed to it!

There will still be work involved afterward, to clear away the larger sticks, but we like to burn stick piles in the spring.

This is the wide agle of the area.... this is a spring picture and the apple tree is blooming white (arrow)

Close up... and the blue tarp I put up to discourage them from eating too many apples.

This is me clearing by hand on the back side of it last year...

Heh...I think they worry y'all more than they do us East Coasters.

They're a pain. But we're rarely scared. Especially where we are. My house is not going to get flooded or blown away.

All I ~really~ have to worry about (other than power loss) is trees.

Have we heard from everyone? I've been white-knuckled all day and couldn't log on to find out about it!

Yes, trees can do alot of damage when they become roused and move around...

We go, we go, we go to war, to hew the stone and break the door!
