The Hobbit Hole XIV - Hill and Water Under Sky

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Hill and water under sky

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I've been doing okay with the aliens. I can usually kill them before they eat my fish. Haven't learned how to control where they go yet, though.

http://koti.mbnet.fi/bttrack/Shinsen/ - Shinsen is good, I get them over Fork. There are about 950 seeders so it should take you no time to download this.

OK, thanks, I'll keep a lookout for the movie.

Time to hit the sack, good night, everyone.

No, I had to watch a server upgrade so I'd know what to do next time. Big difference. One, the responsibility wasn't mine. Two, it was even more boring than doing it myself.

I'm happy about this so far. I'm the first girl to get assigned this job. You should have seen the guys nonchalantly hauling boxes and stuff out of the office! The one guy is even going to loan me Eva, how cool is that? I got invited to the college anime club, a low-stakes poker game, asked by a girl who oddly reminds me of one of my online friends to consider helping arrange a "Friday-night-at-the-department-Japanese-movie-lock-in"... and we had a long discussion about just what kind of speeds you can get with anime downloads when you've got a whole department's resources on your hands (and how you can call it a research project!)

Yes, I got the link, but haven't had the chance to look it over in detail. Thanks much, Osage.

OK, good night everyone.

Heh, sounds like you won't have to worry any more about your social life being boring!

What kind of server, and what kind of upgrade?

Windows box being upgraded to 2003. They have mostly Unix machines, but there are two windows servers and about... two hundred Windows machines. Those will be my area of responsibility.

The upgrade went smoothly. We walked down to a sandwich joint while it was installing and had a nice little supper. It was a lovely evening here in Colorado...

Once you get the the redundant "time tests", I figger that's when you've won.

The egg pieces get up to $10k each, IIRC. And once you've won that and have 10 pets, you've defeated it.

The downloadable version is in the works and that should be a lot more fun!! I heard they've created an angelfish that brings your dead fish back to life and a shark that eats aliens, but he also eats your fish.

That'd be pretty cool if you can download anime and call it work :)

What's "Eva" again?

Hopefully the server stuff will get more interesting after they give you more responsibility, which I imagine will come pretty soon after they see how fast you learn.

I got to level five and it tricked me with two aliens...
