Eva is, I understand, the most bizarre anime ever made. I've met one person who claims to understand what was really going on. Add Judeo-Christian religious symbolism as seen through Japanese eyes and a weird sci-fi plot - and giant robots (the EVAs)...
It's pronounced "Ay-vahn-jel-ee-on", but everyone calls it Eva (ay-vah).

It seems like some people here have a way of mismarketing Japanese manga/anime like that :)

I've been seeing a surprising amount of allusions to Christianity in anime, though it seems to be viewed through a sort of neo-Buddhist context.
