The Hobbit Hole XIII - Let them pass! Let them pass!
See our freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net home page! ^

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Let them pass! Let them pass!
(Note to dwarves, this is only meant figuratively)

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Gotta go.

This morning's meeting meant that there was no way I'm gonna finish this project today. So now, since I gotta be in the People's Republic of Charlottesville all day Monday, the project has to wait until Tuesday to be finished.

PLUS, the van is NOT ready. They're giving us a rental for the weekend. So I gotta go get that.

See y'all sometime...

Should we take offense at Corin's quip?

Did you notice how the Dem talking points were being followed in the days after this was first reported.

Yes'm, I sure did. But, but, but the "timing" is suspicious!

We're girls. Should we have said, "Oooh, yes, please post more like that!"?

Read it again.

Rush reading the thread. Dreaming about girls.

Makes perfect sense.

Just got back from the movie; catching up here.

Oops, guess I'd better clarify my previous remarks on the pronunciation of "Evangelion". When I said was pronounced like the original Greek before, I meant it kind of generally rather than precisely, and yes, technically the "g" sound should be semi-hard rather than pronounced like "j". The actual word looks like what would be rendered literally in English as "eu'-ag-gel'-ion" (approximately, without reproducing the actual Greek characters), which comes from the prefix "eu" meaning "good" (like in "euphoria") and the root word "aggelia" (meaning "news" and related to a verb form meaning "to announce"--it's the same root the word "angel" comes from), which together mean literally "good news"="gospel". However when you transliterate the dipthong "eu" (epsilon upsilon, with each vowel sounded separately) into Latin it looks like an "ev", which is why the English spelling starts with "ev". Also, when you have a double "g" (double gamma) in Greek it's pronounced like the "ng" sound in "finger", which is where the semi-hard "g" comes from; however you'll often hear this pronounced with an ellision so that it sounds more like a "j" (like in the word "angel").

Hope that's better! Gonna eat supper here; will finish catching up later.

Ugh. We are getting ~miserable~ here in our little cardboard house, so we're heading out to find an air-conditioned restaurant to hang out in. Be back later!

Heh. I'm listening to the Cubs/Phillies game. Apparently the umpires couldn't make it in due to the weather so they've hired local amateur umpires for the game. Hope nothing series happens.

"Hope nothing series happens."

What about the World Series? :)

I'll check if I can find WGN this time--couldn't find it last time, too many channels on this satellite dish. . .

I still have to unpack. Looks like I need the food mill after all...and I haven't found my DE poster yet. It's probably in with the pictures. And I still have some pantry items to put up....and the boxes with the dinnerware that didn't make it to the cabinets need to be put somewhere else....
