On June 14th of this year President Bush welcomed Bill and Hillary Clinton back to the White House for the unveiling of their portraits.
Being the gracious, polite adult that he is, President Bush had some kind words for X42 and that made some people very unhappy. President Bush had done the right thing being gracious to his guests and I disagreed with those who would have had him exoriate old X42. However, each time I heard a sound bite of the president's speech it became clear, someone with an imagination and knowledge of clinton could interpret those words in another way.
Here are my interpretations of some of President Bush's remarks.
The years have done a lot to clarify the strengths of this man.
As we republicans predicted it would take time to see the real damage done to our country and this White House, how do you like your boy now? Still think his presidency was chock full of peace and prosperity? Oh, and some of you still can't name three accomplishments of that Administration.
As a candidate for any office, whether it be the state attorney general or the President, Bill Clinton showed incredible energy and great personal appeal.
Nothing of any significance was accomplished.
As chief executive, he showed a deep and far-ranging knowledge of public policy, a great compassion for people in need, and the forward-looking spirit the Americans like in a President.
Again, nothing of any significance was accomplished.
Bill Clinton could always see a better day ahead -- and Americans knew he was working hard to bring that day closer.
Looking past the terror threat doesn't make it go away. Thanks to the media many were lulled to sleep and received a nasty wake up call that morning in September.
Over eight years, it was clear that Bill Clinton loved the job of the presidency.
What better way to feed his huge narcissistic appetite?
He filled this house with energy and joy.
Too bad so much was wasted keeping this slug out of trouble and the only good times came from saving clinton's bacon from the fire.
He's a man of enthusiasm and warmth, who could make a compelling case and effectively advance the causes that drew him to public service.
Boy he loves to charm the ladies and what's the ultimate chick magnate? The White House of course.
President Bush is a smart man, he knew clinton would sink himself with that stupid tome of his. Why in the world would President Bush attack clinton when clinton does it so effectively to himself?
Thank you President Bush, it was a refreshing change from trying to parse all that bill clinton speak.

I am most upset hearing all these "mill worker" stories about Edward's Dad. Having many relatives in the South who lived and worked in mill towns, I must tell you that there were lots of people much worse off than mill workers. Mill families had regular pay checks, homes provided by the mills etc. And most of my cousins whose parents were mill workers went to major colleges, like Johnny Edwards, and have wonderful professional careers now. I don't know what it is like working in a mill now, but back when Edward's dad did, I doubt if his family was "poor" in relation to others in the South.
MSM is having a good time exploiting the Edward's loss of their son and Teresa's loss of her hubby. And while the Edward's kids are certainly "cute", I am sick of them already....They seem rather active and I cannot imagine them sitting through a dinner of veal tenderloin in the formal dining area of Teresa's mansion. I suppose they ate in the kitchen with the nanny and other "help". I wonder if the nanny is a nanny or a mammy?
Agree with you re the millworker moniker. Around here, it's steelworker or coal miner - if your father was either one, you're somehow imbued with magical powers, or godliness or something. These folks are among the highest-paid workers in the area, too, but their union bosses would have them believe they're the most grievously abused. Johnny Edwards didn't exactly work his way up from poverty. He didn't marry for money, at least, but I'm reasonably sure his childhood didn't include not having shoes, tending the chickens or having to use an outhouse at the old family shack, either.

I heard on Brit Hume's show yesterday that his father became director of the mill. They didn't go barefoot and if I hear that "Ah'm the son of a millworker" line one more time I will scream. Who the H*ll cares what your daddy did, John? I'd like to know about your own thievin' via attacking honest doctors, driving up my health insurance costs, and the cost of malpractice insurance which also has driven OB-GYN's outta the OB business. You lying smarmy piece of hair.

In addition to getting confused about Tennessee (she refered to it as the Tennessees, got them confused with the Carolinas I guess, how did she pass her citizenship test or don't they test state geography?), she has incurred the wrath of Maureen Dowd whose latest column makes fun of her (perhaps she is upset that Chris Black got the job as her handler and not herself) and takes note of all the touching going on between John and John John.LINK TO DOWD COLUMN
Also, she appears to be trying to knock the thumb out of little Jack's mouth here. Do hope Mom Edwards took her aside later and told her she did not appreciate a new acquaintance reprimanding her kid...Now the poor kid probably thinks thumbsucking is bad and who knows how that will affect his self esteem..Jeez...LEAVE THAT ADORABLE KID ALONE
But in the photo, Teresa Heinz Kerry is clearing trying to get towheaded little Jack Edwards, age 3, to stop sucking his thumb. Frankly, if I were Elizabeth Edwards, I'd smack ol' Teresa on the wrist. Don't discipline somebody else's child, especially for a non-infraction like thumbsucking. He's not writing with a Sharpie on a Louis XV highboy!
Two points:
1. Thumb-sucking is considered, these days, a victimless comfort strategy, not a horrible bad habit.
2. Elizabeth Edwards gave birth to this child at age 50, and for my money, whatever she chooses to do from here on out, she gets a free pass to do it.

My great grandfather was a mine superintendent here in Indiana County, he raised 6 children on what he made, sent two sons to Kiski prep and to college. Both eventually became school superintendents. Even after retirement, Da-da was comfortable.
If John Edward's father was in a similar positon, he was no lowly wage earner.
Kerry has nice nails and both of their ladies look pregnant.

I couldn't stand to hear the name Edwards anymore yesterday so I kept away from the news but this morning local news is reporting a hairdresser in the area was asked by a radio reporterette what she thought of Waffles and Grits' hair since Waffles proclaimed, " -and we've got better hair." While they were here in Tampa this week.
President Bush wins the hair contest because it looks real and natural, not wiggy like Waffles', " his looks fake." she tells the reporterette. And as for Grits, well... ... he looks like the oldest surfer on the beach. (Hey! Wait a second. I resemble that remark!) :-) On the second report on the world of hair the station ran another comment on Grits' hair, "You can tell he's a lawyer, time to update." hehehe!
That Waffles guy sure has a thing for his hair. The last time Russert interviewed him Russert ran that clip of Waffles defaming our Vietnam soldiers. As they came out of the clip Tim asked Waffles if he regretted saying his fellow troops had and were committing atrocities. Waffles almost missed the question (on purpose no doubt) by laughing uproariously at how dark his hair was and how young he looked.

Seems I've missed a lot. (10-Q, 10-Q, 10-Q!!) Not only have you reported that the press are tripping over their tongues over Grits, now the local radio guy is going on and on about Waffles and Grits slobbering all over each other during their campaign rallies! Ewwwww!
Gee, I wonder where that "gravitas" word went? Guess the press is too busy explaining to the world how accomplished Grits is, oh and how Grits is "gonna cut Cheney off at the knees" during their debate. LOL!!!
