The Guild 6-26-2004 A little word parsing
Whitehouse.gov ^

Posted on 06/26/2004 1:10:53 PM PDT by BigWaveBetty

On June 14th of this year President Bush welcomed Bill and Hillary Clinton back to the White House for the unveiling of their portraits.

Being the gracious, polite adult that he is, President Bush had some kind words for X42 and that made some people very unhappy. President Bush had done the right thing being gracious to his guests and I disagreed with those who would have had him exoriate old X42. However, each time I heard a sound bite of the president's speech it became clear, someone with an imagination and knowledge of clinton could interpret those words in another way.

Here are my interpretations of some of President Bush's remarks.

The years have done a lot to clarify the strengths of this man.

As we republicans predicted it would take time to see the real damage done to our country and this White House, how do you like your boy now? Still think his presidency was chock full of peace and prosperity? Oh, and some of you still can't name three accomplishments of that Administration.

As a candidate for any office, whether it be the state attorney general or the President, Bill Clinton showed incredible energy and great personal appeal.

Nothing of any significance was accomplished.

As chief executive, he showed a deep and far-ranging knowledge of public policy, a great compassion for people in need, and the forward-looking spirit the Americans like in a President.

Again, nothing of any significance was accomplished.

Bill Clinton could always see a better day ahead -- and Americans knew he was working hard to bring that day closer.

Looking past the terror threat doesn't make it go away. Thanks to the media many were lulled to sleep and received a nasty wake up call that morning in September.

Over eight years, it was clear that Bill Clinton loved the job of the presidency.

What better way to feed his huge narcissistic appetite?

He filled this house with energy and joy.

Too bad so much was wasted keeping this slug out of trouble and the only good times came from saving clinton's bacon from the fire.

He's a man of enthusiasm and warmth, who could make a compelling case and effectively advance the causes that drew him to public service.

Boy he loves to charm the ladies and what's the ultimate chick magnate? The White House of course.

President Bush is a smart man, he knew clinton would sink himself with that stupid tome of his. Why in the world would President Bush attack clinton when clinton does it so effectively to himself?

Thank you President Bush, it was a refreshing change from trying to parse all that bill clinton speak.

Does THIS sound familiar?
The Anglo-Spanish Brains nursery and primary school [Madrid] looks like an unlikely al-Qa'eda target... yet Spanish police said it had been marked for destruction by the terrorist cell responsible for the Madrid commuter train atrocity.

Isn't that lovely, a plot to blow up toddlers. Yet Michael Moore would say these fine folks - the Al Qaeda boys - are just like our own Minutemen of 1775. It's been a few years since I visited Concord or Lexington, but I must have missed the part about blowing up schools and slaughtering children.

Michael Moore wouldn't know a patriot if he had to rely on one for his freedom....oh wait! He did!

I keep hearing the media calling the upcoming Saddam trial the "Trial of the Century". If they were half as clever as they think they are they would call it "The Mother of All Trials".

I was away from TV on the day Saddam appeared in court, so I don't know if everyone saw Saddam's "Perp Walk". I hadn't seen these images until this thread was posted.

Priceless!

The media consensus seems to be that Kerry's about to "break out": VP announcement, convention, 9/11 Commission report. In their view, Effin will surge ahead prior to the GOP convention and there's little Bush can do about it.

Let me add a contrarian view. I think the pubbies should remain relatively quiet during the donkey confab in Boston. The Dems are in such a lather that (I believe) they're in danger of pulling another "Wellstone"...letting down their masks and allowing the whole country to see their true instincts. Their convention can go two ways:

1) Play up the patriotic. Doing so will enrage their anti-American left wing. Lefties will appear on TV attacking Bush despite the party's efforts to pretend the lefties don't exist. If the confab is too patriotic, the A.N.S.W.E.R. folks may even begin attacking the Dems ala 1968.

But 2) If they play to the anti-war, anti-American crowd they risk alienating the vast middle American electorate.

I think they've got a real dilemma on their hands. Which way will they go?????

I am having trouble trying to figure out what these dems are up to with Kerry. This weekend, with him pretending to be W, dressing in jeans, toting a gun, admiring the cows, eating ribs later today-well it is so bizarre. He looks so out of place. I will not post photos, they are on Drudge.

Maybe they are banking on a terror problem and lots of anti-Americanism at the Olympics following the Convention that Kerry will get a bounce from?

I was just reading Maureen Dowd's column for today-filled with hate and venom for W and Cheney as it always is, and has been since 2000. She did not even mention the 4th of July.

Dick Cheney was in Wheeling, WV, yesterday evening. I couldn't make it, due to family obligations, but saw it live on the local news. Wow! Some 2,000 enthusiastic supporters joined him at the high school. Meanwhile, fewer than 20 Democrats held a protesting event nearby. Ha! We had twice that number freeping Kerry when he appeared in Wheeling a few months ago, and this is a very predominantly Democrat/union region. There is reason for hope.

I liked this quote from George Washington in 1792, reprinted in our church bulletin this morning:

I am sure that never was a people, who had more reason to acknowledge a Divine interposition in their affairs, than those of the United States; and I should be pained to believe that they have forgotten that agency, which was so often manifested during our Revolution, or that they failed to consder the omnipotence of that God who is alone able to protect them.

Seeing J. Effin pretending to be the great white hunter yesterday merited a LOL. He was just so handy with the shotgun, oh, that evil instrumentality of death and destruction! Why do I suspect he'd seize my guns in a heartbeat, but has no qualms about using one to try to win votes?

Today's Page Six tidbits:

IS this a hint that Sen. John Edwards will be John Kerry's running mate? Invites just went out for a July 16 cocktail fundraiser in Beverly Hills where Edwards is filling in for Kerry. "Come and meet Senator John Edwards, a rising star in the Democratic Party and an active surrogate for John Kerry," the invite says. "Senator Edwards has been tirelessly traveling the country on behalf of the Kerry campaign, and he looks forward to sharing his experiences with you here in Los Angeles." Tickets to the event in a private mansion start at $250, and $1,000 includes a VIP pre-reception. ...

WE HEAR . . . THAT former president Jimmy Carter - in spite of winning the Nobel Peace Prize - won't be attending the Democratic National Convention. Carter was expecting to give a speech during prime time, but the John Kerry camp doesn't want to remind voters of the hostage crisis and the malaise that gripped the U.S. during the Carter years ...

Liz Smith is a bitter old Democrat lesbian, isn't she?

'HAPPY Fourth of July!" And how we hope the people of Iraq will some day make a happy celebration of their own independence day! But before that day can be named specifically — such as the one when Saddam Hussein fell or the day we turned over sovereignty — the Iraqis themselves will have to find a day of true independence from terror, chaos and hatred.

....former president Jimmy Carter...won't be attending the Democratic National Convention.

Hmmmm. One wonders if a certain former vice-president will be scarce, too!

I heard one of the newsies ask McAwful this morning whether Gore would get a prime-time speaking slot. McAwful dodged, saying they hadn't yet set their schedule. LOL! The convention's in 3 weeks and they "haven't set their schedule"?! They lie even when they don't need to.

Carter and Gore are such embarrassments to the Dems. Of course, they really should be embarrassed about Clinton, too, but they aren't, which speaks volumes about them.

U.S. President George W. Bush waves before speaking on the steps of the state capitol while in Charleston, West Virginia, July 4, 2004. The president delivered a Fourth of July celebration speech before returning to Washington.

No, it wasn't the squash! He loved it and wants more.

He caught a cold and old scare tissue in his lung became infected. But they fixed him all up, and we brought him home last night. He's doing very well and SIL is there with him. Perhaps this hospital visit will help FIL finalize his decision to move closer to us.

It is so hot and very humid, usually raining from 3-5 and sometimes into the night. Hope the kids get to see the fireworks.

I did see the 20/20 with all of clinton's gals. Kathleen Wiley is one angry lady, as she has every right to be, I hope she's putting all that energy into getting GWB reelected. Paula was a hoot. Saying the VRWC encouraged and backed her is mute, she had a beef, those men had the money to bring the case forward. She certainly could have said no thank you and it would've died.

Paula said she'd like to have a face to face conversation with clinton. Didn't she also call him a chicken?

HAPPY
INDEPENDENCE
DAY!!!

Right after Kerry's convention I shall hazard the guess that's when Bush's can of whoop-ass is going to be opened. Reports of WMD, connections between Saddam and bin Laden, oil for food scam, French, German and Russian made artillery that were against sanctions, the numbers of people in those 270 mass graves.

Perhaps even the way clinton and company screwed around with terrorism, making us a sure target will make it to a TV campaign ad. Hey maybe we'll even make Maddy Albright happy and pull OBL out of the freezer we've got him it for our October surprize. :-)
