Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Tree and flower and leaf and grass

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Hi yourself! Perhaps things may improve by Labor Day!

That's the kind of places we stayed...I think they are called "Fremdenzimmers" which means "guest room" in German, IIRC...usually just someone's house with a spare room! They were usually very nice, though...like a small home business, they'd put a lot of effort into it.

You'd just drive by, see a sign that zimmer, pull over and stay the night! Included breakfast.

Now Germany...I'd like to go back to Germany.

The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain...

By George, she's got it! By George, she's got it!

This one is kinda funny :)

Guns are strictly forbidden on most Tours. In the rare cases where they are permitted, only the most antique and cumbersome models are available. The majority of Tourists come from a country where Guns are cheap, simple, and almost ubiquitous, with the result that many thousands of people in Touristland are shot every year, and considerable numbers of self-styled Hunters shoot Cows by mistake. It is thought that this continual carnage is one of the things that makes Tourists willing to give up the comforts of Touristland and endure the Hardships of the Tour. Despite Danger, foul Weather, and the omnipresent threat of Evil, Tourists are less likely to die on Tour than if they stayed safe at home.

On the other hand, there are actually people in Touristland so squeamish that they actually exaggerate the lethal power of Guns. Such people appear to believe that anyone who gets hold of a Gun will kill himself or someone else within a matter of minutes, whether he intends to or not. If you get any of these on your Tour, you would be best advised not to let them handle any kind of Weapon at all.

It is much better and bigger than the space they'd have in a Betta Hex though. :-)

Motel Betta--we'll leave the tank light on for you. . . :)

I think the area we were in just put a sign out that said "Zimmer Frei" - room free. And they were a lot nicer and cheaper than the hotels! The one at the farm had big down comforters. Just heavenly.

Germans can be far more blunt or abrupt than Americans typically would be, I think. And to us...that can seem rude. But ya know...I didn't mind that so much as the extremely overfriendly Italians. Those guys scared me! ;-) I mean...we'd be just walking down the street and people would come running up and talk to us. Once I got used to that, it didn't bother me so much, but the first few times my first reaction was to run!

That's probably normal there; but that reminds me of a scary story my friend told me once. She and another female American friend were visiting Italy and had gone out walking at night. They were in a relatively isolated area and these two guys came up and started talking to them. They were very friendly, but my friend noticed one of them had a knife he was concealing in his hand. She came up with an excuse to leave before anything happened, fortunately.

Gosh, I know we stayed at a place like that...the room was very long and narrow with a window at one end that overlooked the hills. I remember the HUGE down comforters!

Wow...be neat if we stayed in the same zimmer, huh??

I'd love to go back...

PS: German food is great :) There are a lot of German restaurants in Milwaukee and they were some of my favorite places to eat. One thing I noticed is that they always fed you more than you could eat; I asked my German friend about this and he said it's traditional in Germany to always give your guests extra food so they have something to eat on the way home if they get hungry. Had you noticed that when you were over there?

Doesn't Colorado count? :) England is somewhere I've always wanted to go--also Scotland and Ireland. That, Hawaii, and the Caribbean are probably near the top of my list.

I can never finish a meal at ANY restaurant, so I wouldn't have noticed. But I do miss the food. Fresh sauerkraut...mmmm. I really didn't have many things I didn't like a LOT.

The place with the biggest servings was Texican, though. ;-) A couple from Texas started a place that serves both Mexican food and things like chicken fried steak. HUGH portions. One meal from there could feed me for a week, just about!

If you don't need a passport, it doesn't count.

I've been to some Mexican restaurants over here that serve hugh portions, too :) My friend and I used to always go to this one place where the burritos were as big as your head!

Sauerkraut. . .my Mom made some recently where I think she soaked the meat in it before serving or something like that--that was *so* good. . .

Hmmm--probably true. . .though that would also exclude Hawaii and Alaska, which seems like they should count. However since you're a conservative you still might need a passport to get into Colorado :)

(Why do I have a John Denver song playing in my head now. . .? :)
