Special Wedding Edition: The Hobbit Hole XI - No One Admitted Except on Wedding Business!
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |
Still round the corner there may wait |
Home is behind, the world ahead, |
show off
"There are bits that would make great taglines.... "I haven't been treated like a kid since I became a suit of armor!" being my favorite."
LOL! Yeah, you can get a lot of great taglines out of manga/anime as well as Godzilla and Kung Fu movies by listening for lines that make no sense when translated literally into English out of their cultural context. My friend and I used to keep a list handy for random quoting purposes.
I'm checking out the site now. The premise sounds interesting--reminds me of "Ranma" (bodies switched) but with a more serious tone. Is this manga also available offline?
I can see that one fine.
"Yes dear... red x"
Maybe it's just because it was a picture of Bakshi and your subconscious blocked it out because it was too horrifying? :)
You might be able to download the files. The manga isn't licensed yet (I think) which is why it's available online, but that mean, no manga at the bookstore. The anime just got licensed, so I'm not likely to have more than the first eight episodes, which Clare gave me, in fansub form. Hafta wait a couple years until it's on dvds. It really rocks - manga, but anime more. The anime art is reminiscent of Scrapped Princess.
It's more Kenshin than Ranma. In fact, almost but not quite entirely unlike Ranma.
I feel spayshell!
Oops, time for me to get going... laters all.
My problem is I feel spatial...
Sigh--I need to develop some anime-importing connections. . .
I see some of the characters are named "Elric"--Leiber influence? That metal arm and leg Edward has looks like it was influenced by Six Million Dollar Man. (I include the link in anticipation of the question, "What's Six Million Dollar Man? :-)
Speaking of Scrapped Princess, I still haven't had a chance to watch that--I've been planning to after I finish Part 3 of the article, which unfortunately is taking forever. Kerry's got so many Commie connections it could take a book to cover them all.
"I see some of the characters are named "Elric"--Leiber influence?"
I meant "Moorcock", of course! Have him sitting next to Leiber on the shelf next to the computer so when I looked over there my mind went dyslexic :)
Eep, I hope no Moorcock influence, I don't like the guy's work.
"My problem is I feel spatial..."
I had that problem once, though fortunately it was only temporal-ary. . .
What don't you like about it? I don't like the amorality of the characters, but some of his ideas are cool--like I like the idea of Stormbringer as a vampiric sword.
Oh no! Now that that other silly movie is over, they just started a movie George Lucas made before "Star Wars", "American Graffiti". It also features one of Harrison Ford's earliest appearances.
JenB: Who's Harrison Ford?
Dude, even I know Harrison Ford. Sigh... he was cute, when my mom was my age.
I just really, really dislike most of his characters. And his writing style is too... too "Chronicles of Thomas Covenant", the worst fantasy EVER, imo.
And "Elric" is a great name, if he hadn't used it for his stupid evil elf-dude.
Wasn't that Stephen R. Donaldson? I missed a reference above...
"Hey, "American Graffiti" is a classic..."
Yeah, but it's still funny seeing all these famous people before they were famous--George Lucas before "Star Wars", Harrison Ford before Han Solo, Suzanne Summers before Chrissy Snow, Richard Dreyfuss before "Jaws"--plus Richie Cunningham before he was Richie Cunningham :)
Ugh, yes. Horrible stuff. Totally nihilist garbage.
I think it's worse than Robert Jordan, King of the Unending Series of Doooooom..
