The Hobbit Hole XII - Tree and flower and leaf and grass

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Tree and flower and leaf and grass

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention what ticked me off yesterday. The powers-that-be decided that everyone needed to set their brand-new flat screen 17" Dell monitors to 1024x768 resolution, instead of the 1280x1024 that is optimal.

No reason given, no logical explanation - just do it.

So my font and icons and programs all look fuzzy and like crap.

Why the he!! did they buy new awesome monitors for everyone in the sitnkin' department is we have to stare at poor resolution anyway??!!!

I like that one too. You'd think PETA would have made a difference for me. lol

They force you to use a specific resolution???

That's just insane! That should totally be up to the user...and for LCDs, you're right - if you don't use the optimal resolution, things look like crap.

Ha! That soumds like the last place I worked before coming here!!! I couldn't figure out why things like my resolution (which *really* makes a difference in CADD) made a difference to them!

So.... Corin and RN sort of agreed about something? Whoa!
Haven't been to Willow Creek, but I've heard stories. Of course, I wouldn't be comfortable in any large church...

Incidentally Corin I saw the thread linked from that other thread. Are certain parties really trying to get you banned?

LOL... I have! And they wouldn't let us set our clocks either - even though they were WRONG! And they weren't set systematically. All were different - and wrong!

Go figure.

We should be a little careful about bringing all that here...

It's poison!

Actually that was in the news section... does it violate the Hobbit-Hole No Religion Wars rule?

I don't know ksen. I really do not want to discuss it in the Hobbit Hole. I wouldn't have been back on that thread at all if Alex wasn't trying to stir the pot.

RN has a history of stirring up things with the mods. Let's face it, the GRPL as a whole has a real history of stirring up things with the mods.

FWIW, the only warning I have ever received in the four years I've been on FR was the one to not use the term "Swarm" when referring to the GRPL. When the RM realized it was their own term, he withdrew that warning.

I'm a lightning rod of sorts because I can pinpoint their hypocrisy.

And they hate that.

But let's let it go.

Lembas anyone?

I think it's the thread crossing and talking about other posters rule, more than actual religion war content rule...

Have to be cautious is all....

I know I know I know --- I said I would stop.

But, I teach one software program that *requires* that the screen resolution be set at at least 1280 X 1024. The IT guy set them all lower than that while working in my classroom. With lower settings you can't get the control panel for that software on the screen.

Today, one of my things was resetting all the resolutions.

OH, and IT guy has a note explaining why they *have* to be set that way and his boss has an email to the same effect.

Yup. It's this kind of crap that really sticks in my craw. I truly live on the set of Office Space.....I'm convinced!

It's really hard to work on some of the programs now because the fonts are virtually illegible. I've brought it to the attention of several manager-types and they shrug helplessly.

I'm tempted to just set mine back to what is was and see what happens.

Sure.... set it back. What are they going to do? - Say "Ummmm, yeah, your monitor is too clear, and it is supposed to be blurry.... I'm gonna have to ask you to turn it back"

Remember when one of our previous threads had to be closed down due to problems that thread crossing created?

Of what possible interest is the screen resolution from a policy standpoint? I don't see how it makes a bit of difference for monitor or user health.
