Special Wedding Edition: The Hobbit Hole XI - No One Admitted Except on Wedding Business!
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |
Still round the corner there may wait |
Home is behind, the world ahead, |
Oh, really? That would be nice. Nothing like a good Discovery Channel forensic show before bedtime.
I watch maybe three hours of television a week, right now, and there's only one hour I'd really miss (Amazing Race show)
Heh...BMG music service can't quite figure out my taste in music...
BMG? Whatzat?
I order things from Amazon and Half.com fairly frequently. Seeing their recommendation program try to suggest stuff is pretty funny. I like such different stuff it isn't sure what to say.
Yeah - live streams of the news... My links are old, and don't work, or I'd give them to you. But if you cruise breaking news threads, and save live feed links for all the majors, you can watch the news at least.
As for other TV shows, for a geek like yourself, you could join that newsgroup thingy that ecurbh belongs to and figure out how to download from it... It's jibberish to me, but not you.
You can find most popular TV shows up there within a day or two of showing, MST, South Park, movies, anything people are watching.
See, the newsgroup thing, like downloading music, strikes my somewhat odd sense of morality wrong. There's a difference, in my mind, between having a friend tape the show for me, and downloading it off the internet. Same difference as when I rip a copy of a cd my sister bought, as opposed to using some file-sharing service.
Streams, however, strike me differently, as I assume they're put out by the channels themselves.
Yeah, it's good. I used to wear that brand all the time (got too expensive though).
Washington State, of course! ;-)
I've got an Esprit belt! I wore it at WeddingMoot a couple of times. I've owned it for years.
Ohfercryinoutloud...
I spent $400 on Nana's meds last week. Wife called Wednesday to transfer money from her NC account to ours. They sent it to someone else's account...
the news links are put out by the channels themselves.... and while they aren't ~really~ public, I think they are for internal use and people find the addresses.
LMAO!
Just out of curiosity, who's the cable provider where you'll be going? Do you have a link to their website?
I think your level of sin would be the same in either case, and it's either bearable for you or not.... I think the level of sin for the person ~providing~ you a free tape versus providing thousands of people a free download of sellable product for free differs in degree.
The downloads of current TV shows have no market value, so I don't see them as a great sin. They aren't sold, or if they are, it'll be years from now as a package of shows. Rips from DVDs are an actual theft that has a dollar value.
I can fully recognize it as a sin and still justify some of them... especially the ones that I fully intend to buy that just aren't out yet ;~D
ecurbh disagrees with me on this and he is glowering ;~D
I think it is a temporary problem that will be solved by blending of technologies between broadcast and internet and recording. Those technologies will all change, and probably end up in an 'on demand' type of viewing in the future that is either free or purchased or a combination of the two. We will not always have seperate cables and antennae for TV, radio and Internet with a selection of discs of recorded stuff. I don't know what it will look like, but it won't be the same in ten years.
Dang, you got it fixed up a lot quicker than he wrecked it, didn't you?
I'm not glowering, honey.
He's still kinda cute when he's glowering...
Well, maybe I am glowering a bit, then.
