Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Tree and flower and leaf and grass

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Get an ivy. Or even better, a philodendron, or several philodendrons. You almost CAN'T kill those. The one I have...I've occasionally gone weeks and weeks forgetting to water it, and it just keeps ticking.

When I moved from my apartment to my house, it was accidentally left outside in kind of a bush at The House for a coupla months...didn't hurt it none.

It's the cockroach of the houseplant kingdom, I guess!

How many days till vacation?

No, it's 21 days for me. Three weeks from tomorrow we leave for the beach. Jen is one day ahead of me on the countdown.

It was weird sitting in the airport. Reminded the Missus that when we lived in DC traveling was commonplace. I was flying 2-3 times a month. And often she and Jr. would go with me.

Last time I was on a plane was 1996. That's gotta change.

Hey...does anyone know about a brand name called "Esprit?" I got a blouse at the thrift store...paid 59 cents for it and seems to be very well-made...has an almost starched feel to it. It's like a sleeveless "oxford" type shirt.

On the label in the neck it says "Esprit de Corps" and on the pocket it just has a little tag says "Esprit".

I wonder if it's a good brand? Did I get a good buy? If just feels like a great shirt and when I washed it, it didn't wrinkle and dried great on the line.

I think at 59 cents... it's probably a good buy even without a brand name.

I dunno if it's much of a brand...but on the other hand, my very favorite jeans of allll time (long since deceased) were that brand. Had 'em as a teenager and still remember.

I get foolishly attached to clothing! I actually have a poem somewhere I wrote (only somewhat tongue in cheek) in honor of another pair of jeans that I finally had to part with. ;-)

Well, this is true...but I always like it when I get a shirt that was originally a $40 shirt from the thrift store as apposed to a shirt that's originally a $4 shirt...just tickles me.

You could also get a fake ficus tree and throw some white lights on it. Prolly cost you less than $30.

We use one in Luke's room for a night light.

For a bargain like 59 cents, it washes and dries well, what difference does it make?

I ain't into brands. Sorry. Don't know squat 'bout that stuff.

Fly out for g'nadmoot...

We could place bets on who's back online first, you from vacation or me getting mine set up.

ZZ Top's got a great song about their old blue jeans. You're in good company.

I'd second that, I used to have one of them. If a plant can survive a three years in a bachelor pad, it can survive anything!

Did a quick search and looks like most of their shirts start at thirty dollars or so...so I guess you did good!

Ooh, yeah, and I couldn't kill that, either!

I've often considered stringing little white Christmas lights around the top of the ceiling, when I have my own place. Have not decided yet.

*snif*

I had a ficus in Germany. I found it in a dumpster outside where I worked, without any leaves. I didn't think it was quite dead, though, so I brought it in and put it by my desk and watered and fed it lovingly for a longggg time.

It had grown a foot and was VEY full by the time I left.

It probably ended up back in the dumpers about two weeks later. I practically cried over leaving that tree!

Depends on the timing. I have family in St. Louis. I'd either have to visit or lie about ever being in Missouri.

We're actually hoping to be online at the beach this year. We'll see.
