Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Tree and flower and leaf and grass

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Oooh....blueberries!

I'm having some with my breakfast, but they're the frozen kind. Still haven't seen many fresh ones here, and the ones at the grocery are very, very expensive considering how sad they are.

Hey, sis...how was that wrap? Chewier than most, huh? Kinda hardy...low-carb items alot of times are on the light side...but not this!

It was good! I want to use the Italian kind to make some flatbread pizzas later this week. Looking forward to that...

Good morning!

Things went fairly well last night, I think. Ben and his girl friend arrived safely, though apparently they didn't have a lot of fun traveling...lot of mix-ups, and then they got selected for a random search when they were already late because of airline mix-ups, and they just BARELY made their flight...it was at the final boarding call. But they made it.

Dinner turned out good, I thought. I made very thick lentil soup with beef and plenty of vegetables, and Dad said it was good...he doesn't usually compliment anyone's cooking but his own, so I guess that's a good sign. ;-) And we had sourdough bread with it...tasty.

She didn't come over until bedtime, and the house was SORT of neat...I didn't have the time to straighten that I thought I would since I was planning on continuing the housework while cooking dinner. Since I made dinner out at the house instead...I had left things in a partial shambles. Ugh. But at least I got the bedroom neat.

And...it turns out she's allergic to cats - something I'd already asked Ben about back when he first informed me she'd be staying with me. She had prescription allergy medication...but yeesh! A place with three cats probably isn't HER idea of a fine place to stay, either!

But she seems very nice. Not that we talked much. But we'll get there, I guess.

And they brought me a big bag of goooood coffee beans as a gift...so she can't be all bad. ;-)

She's from the Tacoma area, BTW. So if they DO get married...I'll have to visit the WA Hobbit Hole contingent while we're out there...

I hate anything being in my mouth like that. I feel like I can't breathe and have to really work to keep from panicking. I really hate having my teeth worked on...

Which may be part of why I've got horribly crooked teeth and never bothered trying to have them straightened.

HI!

The pix look great! Looks like a wonderful time was had by all. . . . getting married on the dock was a great idea, and the seaplane was a first-class finale. It's fun to have musical accompaniment while leafing through.

Congratulations and best wishes to you both.

And...it turns out she's allergic to cats...

Ben's not very observant now is he? The gallant thing to do would be to wisk her away to a hotel room.

I just hope he doesn't wait until her eyes are swollen shut to do that.

Good morning! Glad to hear the thing with potential sister-in-law went well. Any sourdough bread left?

Ugh... was running late anyway, and I get to work and find the computer insists on running a long check, something got triggered when I defragged last night. I thought it best just to go along, but it took forever.

Apparently she's fine as long as she takes her medication once a day. But still...

And it's obviously fairly severe - she was in the house for about two minutes before her eyes started streaming and she couldn't stop sneezing. Poor thing!

Everyone else was shocked when I said (afore she came) that she'd probably be happier at a hotel, if only so she could get away occasionally. I was the ONLY one who thought that might be better, and was called stupid, illogical, etc. *sigh*

Yes, but families are clueless when it comes to the fact that occassionally we need to get away from them.

They don't understand your need for that. It's not likely they'd understand hers.

But Ben better learn.

It's hard being the only rational person sometimes, isn't it?

You come visit me and we'll try baking sourdough. I have cooking implements now! Very cheap plastic sorts, but they'll do.

I'm lucky...I had someone give me an entire set of Farberware pans and a whole range of metal mixing bowls. My only HUGH bowl is plastic, but the rest are all stainless steel. Nice. She also gave me a full set of dishes - 10 place settings! All used, but very nice stuff...I never could have afforded things of this quality.

I like baking bread! We'll definitely have to do a bunch of cooking if I make it out there...

Okay, homeschooling question. We're still not 100% sure on what we'll do with Luke when he turns school age. But wife is starting to work with him on reading this summer.

I'm going to be doing math (and later history). Is it too soon for the math? He knows his numbers and can do some very simple addition. Should we forge ahead?

Which leads to the curriculum question...

I won't have nice stuff, but I'll be able to cook. Mom's giving me some of the pans she has duplicates of - we have three large rectangular baking dishes, for instance.

I need a steamer, and a microwave, and I'll be about set!
