Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Tree and flower and leaf and grass

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I don't think we even HAVE them up here! I'd never experienced bites like that. It was awful. They hurt for days!

Trust me, the hurt from them is worse than that of scorpions! At least they don't make me puke and stuff. But, they always make a blister and then I have a bruise where they bite me! They are horrible!!!

Does it ever seem to you, Rosie, like we're the most-staid members of the thread? Do people actually get wilder as they get older?

I just remembered...my van has sliding windows in the back! I think I'll leave the hammer in there though, in case someone tries to get in the van and bother me...I can whale the snot out of them!

The jedi's vests are now adjusted to their bodies and are under their seats. It's a little thing, but I feel much better!

Funny, they think all my preparation for catastrophe is fun!! They think my shelter-in-place drills are an absolute blast...beg me to do them!

I'm perfectly happy with being more hobbitty than some!

Going on a long trip to absolutely nowhere and tent camping was as much adventure as I need for quite a long time!

Yeah, it's ok to be boring, I suppose.

My excitement for the day was making a dental appointment for next week. Oooh, wild.

What are your shelter-in-place drills like? I used to like when our family did tornado drills and we had to pretend like we were living in the basement for a half-hour or so :)

To: Fedora; Overtaxed

I push the button on my storm alert and it sounds a siren, just like it would in case of a chemical spill or some such catastrophe...

Joshua runs to the "safe room"

Matthew runs and gets the bread and the milk, then goes to the safe room.

Steve and I shut off appliances like the oven and the dryer (because they don't shut off automatically)...as we head to the safe room one of us turns off the AC and the other checks to make sure the AC is turned off.

I unroll the plastic I have stapled to the top of my window and begin taping around it with silver duct tape. Steve begins taping the AC outlet and around the door.

Ask OT...she's seen the plastic in the safe room!

And my day is gonna be exciting enough as it is!

Got a call from Dad asking if I can make dinner at their house instead of mine. Goody. I should have more access to ingredients, but I like my own kitchen! I COULD try making it at my house and then going out, but last time I tried that didn't end up well. Too many bumpy roads on the way to the house...

I didn't argue the point. I'll just go with the flow...it's easier.
