The Hobbit Hole XII - Tree and flower and leaf and grass

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Tree and flower and leaf and grass

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

My next question would be "Sure she can stay at my house, but where's she gonna sleep? I don't think she can fit on the couch and I KNOW I can't..."

Huh... how long is she going to be here?

About a week.

I slept on our couch though when OT was here...our couch is VEY comfy, though...I wouldn't mind giving it to a visiting family member to sleep on. But I think company ought to have a room where they can put their luggage and have a bit of privacy, so I put them in the "master" bedroom (if you can call it that). We always put my MIL in there...

Why does your dad want you to make a SOUP?? Sounds like an unusual request.

Not really...it's kind of our standard "quick, cheap and easy" meal. We do a lot of soup meals. And he'd probably refund me for ingredients. Trouble is, I don't have enough to get much without cash up front.

But I can do lentil soup. Just thought of that. That'd be filling and easy and should be tasty enough.

I'm silly to worry, I know. But I don't know this girl at all...don't have any idea if she's a picky eater or what.

A week! So you have to feed an extra person, and house her, for a week?

You're a better person than I am, I'd have said something nasty before it got this far.

I'll pay for it tomorrow when Corin wakes up.

Yes, yes you will pay. But I'm not tellin' you when...

...or how.

One of us would have to go...

I'm series. I'd get her a hotel room. That's really what your dad should do.

My brother brought his girlfriend and another couple to visit me when I lived in an apartment in Austin. I moved in with a friend and let them have the whole apartment to themselves! We hung around (a bit) during the day...but mostly they were just there for a good time in Austin and I left them alone...

My next question would be "Sure she can stay at my house, but where's she gonna sleep? I don't think she can fit on the couch and I KNOW I can't..."

I already told him I didn't think it was a good idea and why. But when all is said and done, I'm the cranky big sister and everyone else knows best. Grrrr...

It may be that she'll only stay for one night. And on the way back from the airport, they're gonna discuss all this, Dad said. But for one night at least...it's likely she'll be with me.

My brother could afford to do that. But he has his views on what's the best way to introduce her to us.

I'm kinda worried that she's going to be able to TELL we've already been arguing about this and that I really don't want her at my place.

Ben is just SURE that we're going to be best friends (especially as she's closer to my age than to his)...and I think that's one reason he's trying to force the issue. It's not the best way.

"I'm the cranky big sister and everyone else knows best."

Tell your dad to make sure he explains to her about the fleas and that you're trying real hard to get rid of them...

LOL!!

;-D

LOL!

Though...the pets are another factor I'm worrying about! Not that they aren't friendly...but not everyone likes animals. And at least some of the time, she'd likely be alone with them.

so I put them in the "master" bedroom...

You know it took me a minute to remember that Steve wasn't there. (or was outside with the jedis)

(nurse? the dwarf NEEDS his caffeine...)

Well, if my parents asked me to do something like this, I'd be able to say "OH NO!" and then get "FINE, don't put yourself out." and then get the silent treatment for about 3 months.

Family! Humph!

LOL!!! Yep, that woulda been a bit startling to OT, huh?

No, the first night she stayed was the night the tornados were going through and she slept through the sirens...Steve was in Joshua's bottom bunk, the jedis were in the livingroom on the air mattress and I was on the couch.

The second night, Steve and the jedis were camping in the back yard and I slept in Joshua's bottom bunk.

OT had our room all to herself! LOL

Well...I can't fault my Dad, really. 'Cause he's as nervous and upset about all this as I am. More so, in a lot of ways...Ben is very, very close to proposing, and he would be the first to get married if it DID happen. And all we know about his girlfriend is that she's my age (other CA brother says older, Ben says younger, and I'm not sure who's fibbing), which makes her five or six years older than him, which COULD be OK, but right away puts us on our guard a bit.

And he's the kind of person who will be even more stubborn about something if people disagree. Granted, he usually means well and has a heart of gold, but...

Oh gosh, what a lot of DRAMA!! LOL

I wouldn't miss it for the world if I were you...go into it with that attitude, maybe?

Keep me posted!!! Now I'm excited...when does she get here exactly again?

"He usually means well". Hmmm... sounds like there could be some real trouble.

Call me old-fashioned, but I've always thought it's weird when the woman's significantly older.
