Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Tree and flower and leaf and grass

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Oh - I meant hardly any garter snakes here at this place.... some places nearby have lots. Nearer water maybe? dunno.

We don't have rattlers.... Eastern WA does, too wet here.

Ivy has been up here in my lap for about the last 15 minutes. I had to 'splain to her about talkin' to friends on the internet. She didn't understand how I was typing and she didn't *see* anybody but I said I was talking. So, I pulled up my folder of moot photos and read posts and showed her pictures to go with them.

It was so sweet! She likes ya'll!!! :-)

Snakes is snakes IMO.... they all scare me equally. I'm an equal opportunity snake killer. I know, you don't like to kill stuff. But, I just can't abide 'em. They scare the livin' daylights outta me!!!

If they didn't scare the crap outta me, they could live.
But, they do... so they can't! I was out on that lawnmower yesterday and kicking myself cause my handgun is at home. I didn't bring it because I didn't want it sitting in my pickup while I flew up there. And my baby brother's wife doesn't want 'em in their house. *sigh* (yes, she's one of those and she married into my family)

People who have little kids in the house more frequently than they have burglars have a different outlook on "bring all your guns over" type parties.... Not sure what'd I'd develop as a long term strategy with kids around, but life is different.

Well, I knew it didn't sound like fireworks.

But, I was way off.

Stephanie dropped a large oak table leaf flat broadside to hardwood floor. She thought it sounded like a rifle too. LOL

She had that viewpoint *before* there were kids.

This is my brother who got his pilots license and learned to SCUBA dive in high school. When they married he had a job where he flew the company plane as a part of his work. When that company went belly-up he ended up having to give up flying because his wife thinks it's too dangerous.

Then, in later years he had to curtail scuba diving because that also scares her. He still dives some - occasionally - but it is a point of contention between them because it scares her.

Okay, I know I may be *different* but I just can't see this. She knew these things about my brother *before* they married. If it scared her... then ... why? This is the brother that I often don't see eye-to-eye with also, but it saddens me that he has had to give up much that he loves.

The things that we do as passionate hobbies, those are often the things that make the nicest textures of each of our individuality. I am sad for him that he no longer gets to enjoy those things. And I love my sister-in-law, but I resent some of the things she has taken from my brother too. I understand fear... but, the one thing I know is that I could never ever bear to end up with a man who enjoyed snakes. LOL That one just wouldn't work for me.

I dunno. I shouldn't think about it. They've been married 20 years in December. I guess it works for 'em. I mind my own business except when it comes up like this.

But, my brother used to like to hunt too. He can't now. And neither of their sons get to hunt. I guess they don't miss it cause they've never done it. and i just said i was gonna mind my own business didn't i?

Snakes--why did it have to be snakes? :)

Here there's fake rattlers that turn up in the garden and on the drive all the time, but no real rattlers. I have to move them sometimes to avoid running over them and squishing them.
