Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Tree and flower and leaf and grass
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

I actually saw that opera and had a marvelous time!
I didn't think I'd like operas at all, until I broke down and saw La Boheme with my youngest sister, Roxy. It's vey cool!
Right now, I'm watching a pretty neat movie. Some wizard-looking dude just walked two short guys into the woods and asked one of them about a ring.

It was one of the operas I played in the orchestra for in college, so I never have ~seen~ it performed.
Absolutely gorgeous music! That love duet at the end of Act I just gives me goosebumps.

I truly believe that you both would love it.
It's quite beautiful and the music stays with you.

I saw the funniest short film on PBS one night. It was a woman narrating in an almost bored voice a synopsis of several well known operas and she would display paper cutouts of the characters or settings as she narrated. It was a hoot as she talked about the murders, unrequited love, gods making life tough for folks on earth, etc. The best one was when she talked about the Ring Cycle. It was so much fun, and I've love to have it on video or DVD.

I wish we had more chance here to get out to the opera or theater. We did subscribe to the "Broadway Under the Stars" series next season.
