Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Tree and flower and leaf and grass

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Said a prayer for Lynn's Uncle Doyle. How's the other prayer situation you mentioned the other day going?

It WAS hilarious! I was wishing I had my digital camera, though the pictures may not have come out because it was dark in between the frequent lightning strikes!!

Oh, man! I had a crush on Linda Ronstadt when I was in like 5th grade. She looked better back then. . .I remember when she was on "The Muppet Show", too :)

"Sad ain't it? She used to be in love with me...until Olivia Newton John ran her off..."

Ah, yes, the "Physical" video was also a major event in 6th grade. . .BTW, did you ever see her in "Xanadu"? One of those films that's so bad it's funny :)

I'm finally watching "Princess Bride" today. Hey, nobody told me Peter Falk was the narrator! He's one of my favorite actors :)

Joan Van Ark I don't remember much. Seems like I vaguely remember her appearing as a guest on "Love Boat" or "Fantasy Island" or something like that. Was she on "Eight Is Enough"?--or am I getting my "Vans" mixed up, since Dick Van Patten was also in that :)

I'm at a wierd crossroads here, because there's SO MUCH I could talk about, especially having a sermon on Independence Day. However, my church is very "traditional", and doesn't like to make any waves. The rally I organized? I had to do it independently from my church...because it's not an issue they like to talk about. There's also a tremendous age-gap in our church. 90% of the members are 55+. There are only 5 couples that are under the age of 40. In 20 years, if this church doesn't do something to "change-up", it'll be a museum.

And...don't even get me started on the Youth Group. I shocked and awed them when I actually started making it into a Youth Ministry. They were used to it being more of a useless social hour, hang-out kind of thing where they'd all get to do fun stuff, and never do any kind of work. Boy..were they surprised! 4 left, and aren't coming back.

I dunno...I'm beginning to think more and more that I don't belong there. We had a Pentecostal pastor speak at the rally, and I tell you, his "style" of sermon-ing was right on. It really drew me in.

So...the question is, do we bail and join a church that gives US more of what we're looking for, or do we stay and fight a (probably) un-winnable battle in the existing church? A no-brainer question, really...leaving would be the coward's way out. But...it's still a tough situation to be in.

Then add to all of this, the family strife...oy!

Ruthie - I'll have it on video! If I can find a way to get the video to an mpg file, I'll post it!

If your family is not being fed, or if you are being drained then leaving is not "cowardly." I'm not saying you should leave, but don't rule out that option based on that reason.

We've left churches twice in our marriage (for reasons other than relocation). The first time we were simply drained. We learned later that we'd hit the church right after a major split. We were fresh blood and they simply drained the fool out of us.

We left another church here for theological reasons. We liked (most of) the people, but just couldn't buy the theology and more importantly didn't want them teaching it to our son.

All I'm saying is be open to change. Maybe now isn't the time because you've got a lot of other stuff going on.

Hang in there bro.

The opportunity you've been given to preach a sermon may be the very thing this church needs for a revival of sorts. Pray about it and let God handle the rest! It will become clear what you need to do.

Pastor just got finished reading "The Purpose Driven Church", and he's all fired up about making some changes to stir things up. I think he kind of looks at TCO and I, and 2 of the other younger couples, as his partners in this. We've been kicking around the idea about having a more contemporary Praise & Worship service on Saturday evenings. That would be awesome if it came to fruition.

Pray about it and let God handle the rest! It will become clear what you need to do.

You know...He gets so irritated with me when I forget that He's in control and I'm not!! :-)
