I just heard an hour ago, I'd been out all afternoon. Friend's ride told us when he showed up. Man... lousy way to wrap up a good day.
Reagan was president when I was born, of course, and I remember him as President. I've always thought he was a good role model. But I suppose it's a blessing, in some ways, Alzheimer's is so horrible.
I was barely perceptive of politics at the time...but I remember being SO DAMN glad he got into office. He was like the grandpa who told me to ignore the sniveling whining 70s and remember the pride I felt for America in 1976.
I am glad he is with God now. He will truly shine there. But I miss him because there will never be another president like him.
Thank you Mr. President. Ill be telling my grandchildren about him...and how I *almost* got to see him in person at the 1984 Inauguration.
". . .But if Legolas was with the Company, he would not interpret the songs for them, saying that he had not the skill, and that for him the grief was still too near, a matter for tears and not yet song.
". . .A lord of wisdom, throned he sat,
swift in anger, quick to laugh;
an old man in a battered hat
who leaned upon a thorny staff.
"He stood upon the bridge alone
and Fire and Shadow both defied;
his staff was broken on the stone,
in Khazad-dum his wisdom died."
