Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...That none have seen but we alone.

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

When we lived in DC, learning to golf was a professional investment. I got the clubs, took some lessons. But since we moved to Richmond I haven't even been on a golf course.

PCA works for us. The general assembly this year is supposed to be boring and noncontroversial, which is good. Dad went to one in Florida a few years ago and we went along for vacation. That one wasn't quite as boring, I think they had to censor someone and that sort of thing.

Yeah, it is as close a thing to religion as I got, and it is pretty close, I think, pretty sure it's lots closer than some of what some people have, anyway.

I'm getting a scanner online today I hope, so should be able to post some fishing pictures.

I'm still purty regular...

As opposed to just purty...

I been thinking about the word "kindle." I suppose it is no accident that the word "kinder," meaning "children" is almost the same?

One good thing about golf, alot of the water hazards have got fish in them, not to mention plenty of golf balls that can be taken out.

When it comes to denominational politics, boring is very good.

Maybe not. I guess it's okay as long as you don't use your kindred for kindling...

Heh...our church in DC was "interdenominational" and wanted to be a "Church for All Peoples." Business meetings were tortuous because everything had to be processed.

We went to our first business meeting at the PCA church and when it was over said "you mean that's it?" It was vey refreshing.

Heh, yes, most churches have all of one business meeting a year. The session handles the rest of it (trust me, they have the torturous meetings. My dad was on Session for years and would come home just exhausted)

Morning, all!

Only 4 days, 5 hours, 18 minutes, and 4 seconds until the wedding!

As far as I know that's the only way bids go up automatically. I'm pinging 300winmag. He's got more eBay experience.

I'm still a couple hundred posts behind, but let me take a stab at this, even if someone has already done it.

An item on eBay starts at some opening price. Based on that price, there are increments which will be applied to new bids. Your bid is the maximum amount that you want to pay for the item.

Let's say the item starts at $100, and the increment is $1. You feel you'd pay up to $120 for it. You're the first bidder, so your bid is listed as $100. Nobody but eBay and you know that $120 is your limit.

Someone else bids $105 for it, but they aren't the top bidder, yet. So now your bid is listed as $106, because his bid has bumped yours higher.

If nobody else bids, you get it for $106, even though $120 was your maximum. If someone bids $125, you'll have to rebid at least $126 to regain the lead.

Hope that helps.
