Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...That none have seen but we alone.

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

SHOUTINGMAN was one of Ramius' close friends. He moved several months ago and Ramius has really missed him since then. SHOUTINGMAN has taught Ramius many political truths. He will probably be instructing Ramius in how to vote in the upcoming election. :-)

And incidentally, WN is pushing Ramius' buttons again. :-)

Sun's up in Afghanistan and have some werk da do with somebody over dere. [sigh] here I am in a densely populated area, having trouble with wireless access, and I'm supposed to feel sorry for some dude out in the *middle of freaking nowhere* in Afghanistan that's having trouble surfing the web?

The rule is, while I work here: No one who works for the city can do anything that makes headlines, and no one who doesn't can't do anything in the city that makes headlines.

Those are my rules. Once I'm not responsible for picking up the mess, anything goes.

I know the fishing along the chain of lakes , bucannon and LBJ, and -- Inks Lake was my favorite. I know how to fish gizzard shad at the foot of the dam for hybrid stripers. Those were good fishing days.

Yeah, like that's gonna work. You're fixin' to have me and Ruthy as houseguests. I think you just invited us to make headlines! :-D

It sounds like SHOUTINGMAN and Ramius must have many quiet, polite political discussions! THAT MUST BE VERY PLEASANT! :)

Those are good rules. I rather like them. Would you mind if I incorporate something like that into my IT policy document?

I was just thinkin' about a place where we could meet closer to halfway.... of course, there is always Possum Kingdom too. But that's a lot further for you to drive. I don't think there is really a halfway point. One of us has to go far... but with Whitney, I got a place for us to stay!

I THINK I'VE COME ACROSS HIM AT A FEW RESTAURANTS AND BASEBALL GAMES! I ALWAYS ENJOY IT WHEN THE CONVERSATION FROM THE TABLE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE RESTAURANT IS SO LOUD I CAN'T HEAR THE PERSON NEXT TO ME, DON'T YOU? WE SHOULD ALL BE VERY GRATEFUL TO SHOUTINGMAN FOR MAKING SURE OUR EARS WORK!

You guys wanna laugh?

This past week I planted grass seed to fill in my should-be-a-lawn-but-mostly-is-a-sand-pit in my really awful back yard. Last couple of days, I've been quite excited because it's started coming up.

Tonight I'm out spreading bark and leveling out where I've just put edging in around this should-be-a-lawn. My dogs are out hanging around. My wife's helping me.

All of a sudden, as Dalmatians do, both dogs decide to ape-bonkers and start leaping up and body slamming each other. Tearing up and down and all around gaining speed for bigger body slams. All on top of my should-be-a-lawn little sprouts. I get quite upset. Wife says: They do this every day, you just don't see it. I am watching as millions of my precious little grass shoots are dying a horrible death.

Wife evens out the sandpit that should-be-a-lawn, saying she smooths it out every day because the dogs tear it up -- every day. I realize that there is no way this is going to be a lawn until autumn when I can buy turf and it can get enough water (without breaking the bank) to live. Wife will be evening out the sandpit-that-should-be-a-lawn every day until September.

I had hopes for those little seedlings. The Dalmatians of doom strike again.
