Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...That none have seen but we alone.

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

It started out as a typo, by Rosie, and now we both use it on occasion to describe our male siblings. It's meant affectionately.

"Silent Running" was very MSTY-fiable... that Joan Baez song was too much!

Interesting tidbit about Silent Running - the score was written by Peter Schickele, the musical/comedic genius behind P.D.Q. Bach. As far as I know, it was the only score he ever wrote.

I think I'm about to see if I can't make a little something in the kitchen to clean up later. I never did eat any lunch. Gotta find something now!

They start arriving Tuesday night - my parents, brother and his family (wife and 3 kids) and sister and her daughter. Then my other sister and her husband come in on Wed. My grandmother, and aunts and uncles arrive mostly on Thursday.

Heehee! It sounds as affectionate as Kaoru's relationship with Yahiko :)

BTW you've got mail.

It is affectionate! My sisters have started using it, too, and the boys answer to it. Of course they also answer to "Weasels", "You Lot", and "Stop That".

Yup! Two days left to flylady the place. Gotta make a run to the feed store today to stock up on animal supplies.

I guess that wasn't a career starter for him :) Was that the score for the Baez song or a separate score?

I suppose flyladying could keep you busy for the remaining time! Hate the thought of having to do that myself. Running to the feed store sounds much more entertaining. LOL

Yikes!
And isn't there something in the Geneva Conventions about the song?

Well, luckily he had professorship at the University of Southern North Dakota at Hoople (U. of S.N.D. at H.) to fall back on. ;~D

It was the full music score. He also worked with Baez on a couple of her albums, but I'm not sure if that was before or after this.

It is affectionate!

Well, Kaoru and Yahiko admitted on one episode that they were like brother and sister--of course then they were fighting again within 30 seconds :)

My sisters have started using it, too, and the boys answer to it. Of course they also answer to "Weasels", "You Lot", and "Stop That".

ROFL! Do these have etymological anecdotes as well? :) My younger brothers answered to a few names like that. . .And then my Dad gave my brothers and I each several nicknames complete with accompanying theme songs. I don't think I'll post those here or I'll never hear the end of it, though :)

Feed stores are fun! There are times when we'll be driving around somewhere, and we'll drive by a feed store, and Hair will want to stop, just to look at stuff! ;~D
