Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...That none have seen but we alone.
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Garden story.
Last week I found a curious thing in between the lettuce and the turnips: a burrow! How rude, thought I, and promptly removed it. Whatever critter it was dug a sloping trench about 5" wide and 8" long. The hole was filled with grass clippings which seemed to be wound into a big ball. None of the surrounding plants were affected.
Well I was irked, removed the grass clippings and filled the hole back in. For good measure, I dead-headed the marigolds and piled the flowers on the spot.
Well, it was just today I've been able to get back out there and admire my plants. I picked some string beans and peas, some spinach, and a head of lettuce (it all made a nice dinner this evening). And what do you suppose I found by the lettuce? Why that rascal critter built another burrow!
So I get my trowel and start to fish the grass clippings out. The clippings prove to be rather stubborn. Why? Because there's at least four newborn bunny wabbits in there!!! I have a *NEST* of bunnies in the *MIDDLE* of my garden!
I'm not sure what I'm going to do just yet.

No one sitting out there now, just the deck chair, and a plant in the background.

But not even momma bunny has eaten anything. Maybe she doesn't like what I planted. (not everyone likes turnip greens...)

When I looked a few minutes ago, it looked like someone's sitting there.

These guys are very, very newborn- still just skin. Ears still stuck down.
I'm not going to evict them just yet. The spinach is about to bolt, so maybe I'll let them eat that. Cam looks fine, btw.

I thought the same thing Jen. But there's something sitting on the deck that looks like the head of someone in the chair.
(somethin' wash up during high tide?)

The only question I have is do we eat'em raw or do we cook'em in a stew with some PO-tatoes?

The thing that looks like a head is a plant that is sitting on the deck.

Are you watching now? ecurbh & I will walk down to the dock.... Tell us if you can see human forms down there well enough to identify people you see at the party.

Looks like it was a loose nut behind the keyboard...I usually right-click a link to open in a new window, and that don't work for this. When I left-click it it works fine.
